For image or money
Suppose a major corporation offered you big dough to do a commercial selling one of their top products. The commercial was written full of the same old subliminal suggestion demeaning to African-Americans. Would you do it? Would you do it if you knew it would brand you a sellout for the rest of your life?

If it goes against your integrity than the answer is a simple know. The wealth of the world cannot buy peace of mind. On a kind of similar note, how do people feel about the telecommunications commercial depicting Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? Personally I feel offended by it because I feel it trivializes the struggle and the importance he played and continues to play in communities across this country.

I couldn't do it, but I can see A WHOLE LOT OF OTHERS OUT THERE that would.
My personal opinion is that everything has come down to money, and for many if it were for the right price they would sell there momma.
I agree with bigBERG and I can see myself saying no to anything that is degrading to myself or the African American community. I just wish more people had that kind of integrity.

I JUST had this conversation yesterday, I made this EXACT same analogy! I completely agree with you, 112!
I wouldn't do it. What good is a bunch of money if you can't even live with yourself? My mother was a big advocate of "if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything."
Now, because of the fact that if I didn't do it, they'd find someone who would, I would attempt to get them to re-write the commercial, so that I could do it. I would point out to them why I had a problem with its current format, and see if we could come to an agreement on a whole new format. If they weren't down with that, oh well, I tried.
bigBERG, I haven't seen that commercial. Which telecom company did it? I'm going to have to try and keep a look out for that.

I don't think it was intended to be offensive; but I can see how a lot of people would be offended by it.
For those that didn't see it. They mention something about making your voice heard and they show Dr. King giving his "I have a Dream" speech. They then show him from the back and there is no one there to listen to the speech.(I haven't seen it in a while, but it is something like that. )

I have not seen the commercial. I got the idea to post this question from watching booty videos.
As long as everybody's gettin' the point(no matter from what commercial), it will serve its purpose. I'm just tired of seeing my people ready to do ANYTHING to "come up".

I agree. I will never understand how Master P and Cash Money are able to make movies. They are some of the most idiotic displays of coonery ever. I think anyone considering selling out themselves and their race should sit down and watch "Bamboozled" first.

It all comes down to the industry.
If you are not an actor, you might not be as aware of how little actors get paid. Think of your favorite actor or actress. If you go back far enough in their history, you will certainly find a role or two that they regret but had to do because the rent was due.
Personally, I could never stoop that low. But also, I could never see myself as an actress, so I will never depend on a 30-second commercial for my livelihood.
If you are an a actor, you might justify it as just acting-just protraying a fantasy.

Not sure but I know I just saw MSNBC do a piece on it before I left the house this morning.
