Problems with Convention...
Whas up Bruhz!!!
I bring you greetings from the ATL...where have just had the millenium convention of ALPHA!
It was a blast...I and my wife(AKA) chilled with bruhz and sorors from all over the country. The spirit of the fraternity was definitely there...
However, I've got some issues to lay out...
Why is it that conventions prices are out of control...??? How can you expect to have an inclusive convention for ALL Bruhz if the prices of things keep changing...going higher and higher...
Secondly, why is it that info is incorrect and that their is bad legistical planning for all the events!
While we held it down in the ATL. The most important stuff, Like the events and programs were hard to find...late running...and too expensive for the end product...
Many of the undergrad bruhs (and the recent grad bruhz) were really excluded because of bad planning and expense...
Sometimes, I wonder if our organization doesn't need a reality check...Your excluding a major half of the organization when you make step show tickets $25.00+....the Awards ceremony $80.00...what college bruh can afford these kinds of prices
I'm thinking about writing a letter to nationals...
I believe its time we reorganize this! Maybe it's time to hire a convention coordinator for full time hire who can plan this event year-round!
We've been doing this too long for it to be so unorganized! Especially for the money you pay to go! I've seen college conferences better planned...see Big 12 Black Student Union Conference (that hosts more than 10,000 college students)!
The sad thing is that I've talked to AKAs and Deltas who feel the same way about their conventions...
We are too tight to have such raggedy national stuff!
Give me your thoughts!
Yours In ALPHA,
I am,
The Ice Cold Kreator

What's up Ice Cold Gentleman of APHIA. I have mad respect for your organization. Well I had to get in on this topic. I must agree that it seems like the prices for Nationals in the orgs. keep going up. Finances kept me from Konclave last year in ATL. Well let's just say, I'm starting a year early to save for the Konclave in Cleveland next year. I don't know if even writing letters will get nationals to even consider lowering the prices. And I must agree, paying $25.00 for a stepshow is a bit ridiculous. But you know we pay those prices anyway. My thought is don't go if you can't afford to go and have a good time. That means going to all the events. Or atleast most of them. Greek love!

Greetings to all Alphas & Greek Family,
Ice Kold Kreator,
I will agree with you on the aspect of location of events within the conference. One of my main concerns came with late notice changes. My chapter represented the
SW region in the Scholar's Bowl, and all prior information that we received pertaining to the Scholar's Bowl stated that it would be on Saturday. Well, at some point the date was changed to Friday, and we were not made aware. The Scholar's Bowl team hadn't even arrived to Atlanta on Friday, so we had to gather up replacements to participate in the Scholar's Bowl at the last minute, which in essence made our region appear to be unorganized and unprepared. Eventhough we didn't win, we did pretty good not having studied one single Black fact.
I do realize the major task of planning and implementing a national convention; I do believe that communication is very important when dealing with alot of people.
As far as the $25 Stepshow, I also flinched when I bought a ticket. Nevertheless, I purchased in name and love of Alpha. I will say that I feel like I did get my money's worth because there was a concert with the stepshow featuring Cameo, who turned out pretty good. Of course the stepshow was the epitome of hard stepping.
I am trying to find a way to purchase the tape. Any references?

Greeting brothers of the elite and cold chat board. I totally agree with you and I think to get these prices dropped we much go through a chain of command and start from bottom to top. Nationals is the head of the chain.
First you want to get a huge petition to make sure a lot of bruhs and sorors are backing you.
Then go through you grad advisor, national pan-hell and finally nationals.
Trust me, if all of those individuals get involved, we can make somethings happen. I know our boule is incredibly priced and undergraduate sorors can seldom afford the cultured and blessed trip.
Keep me informed. Maybe we can get the pan-hell councils at every school involved to get the word out to the rest of the chain of command.
This is not a 06 08 thing, this is a greek thing.
Much love and blessings to you.
Your sister in greekdom and in the kingdom of God.

Greetings, all! I think that if more younger greeks were active in their national bodies, more consideration to their needs would be shown (e.g. pricing structure, membership intake procedures). Also, if more people were financially active period, prices would go down as the financial burden would be spread over more folks.

Frat,
I agree that the prices for the convention was steeep! However, the issue becomes what can we do to lower costs and still have a quality conference. Any suggestions?
