University of Illinois
Okay, bid day is tomorrow, and the waiting kills me.
Quota is set at 48, which is pretty good considering the downward trend of the last couple years. It was also set at the last possible minute, so I believe it accurately reflects the number of women who signed pref cards last night.
This year, everyone was strongly encouraged to go to "no frills." Interestingly enough, we were one of the only chapters that did it. We had a good rush, though, with about 57 women per party during the first and second invitational rounds. Last night was preference, and we had about 54 per party on the list, but, as always, there were some no shows. I think about 150 women total came to our house last night, so we are expecting to make quota.
As for my personal opinions, I was gone over labor day weekend, so I did not meet any of the PNM's during the first three rounds. We took a weekend off for Rosh Hashanah, and then prefs were last night.
The first round, my girl did not show up, so I got to rest my feet.
Second round was a girl I really, really want, but I know that my roommate's chapter really wants her too. The computer chair actually pulled me out off the party for a few minutes while the PNM was eating because she had a question! I tried to smooth it over by explaining that I am the past president, and that she just needed me for a second, but I was so embarassed! Anyway, I cried at the end of the party, and told her that I really want her as a sister, so I am really hoping to see her name on our list tomorrow. I think it will be so weird seeing her around campus if she pledges somewhere else.
Third round, I got a girl who did not seem terribly interested. Unfortunately, I had to pref her even though we had not met before. The converstation was much lighter, and I could not steer it to be about the house quite as much. I liked her, and I think she would contribute a lot, but I don't know if she was really sold on Phi Mu. She wasn't that open to the emotional side of things, so I appealed to her rational side instead.
So the list is up tomorrow at 10:30, and I will update when I can!

Wow, a quota of 48? Parties with 50 or more? How do you meet all of those women?! I find it hard when we have 10 at a COB!

Well, obviously not ever PNM meets every active, but you trust your sisters when it comes time to select members. Total is 145, so most chapters have around 100 actives rushing.

I'm really good friends with a lot of Delta Gammas and AGDs at Illinois and both groups have told me they have been having a fantastic rush! I hope all goes well for you tomorrow and you get the girls you want!! Let me know how the DZs down there do

IowaHawkeye, I am a DZ at Illinois and would just like to let you know that we had an awesome rush! Our return rates were huge (we had the highest return rates out of the entire sorority system after Open House, I heard) and every single party was filled to the brim- pref night had parties of over 60 girls each, even with the girls who dropped. Normally it's just the sophomore class who rushes, but this time we had to pull older girls because our numbers were through the roof!
Anyway, we made quota (set at 50) and I love all our new members! They are all so cute and fun and enthusiastic about everything, especially Delta Zeta! Gotta love DZ
