SMU Recruitment Moving to Fall
https://www.instagram.com/smupanhellenic/
It's been confirmed that SMU recruitment has moved fall and will be from now on. Recruitment will be taking place starting on Labor Day weekend.
I had heard rumblings about this after this past recruitment but I didn't want to post anything until it was confirmed. It'll certainly be interesting after years of doing deferred recruitment.

It will be different, but should definitely be better. Deferred Recruiment sets up up so many PNMs for failure because of unrealistic expectations that they'll land in a top group, only to find out that's not true. And struggling chapters have been sh*t upon for an entire semester only to continue to struggle. I really hope it works out well.

While fall vs spring recruitment has been discussed a ton here, I think for SMU specifically it could benefit the sororities as a whole.

So it beings: Recruitment dates have been set (I'll make an SMU thread when the time comes)
Recruitment will take place between August 28th-September 3rd.

Fall recruitment will be interesting to watch for a variety of reasons. I’m wondering how THE SOCIETY (the group formed last year from rogue Kappa Alpha Theta members after their SMU chapter was closed) will fare?
They did surprisingly well this spring. And with NO Panhellenic rules, NO guidelines on summer recruitment and (apparently) NO shortage of money—will they continue to prosper or begin to fade away?
If they do well again, their beautiful chapter house will continue to sit idle and Dallas Theta alumnae will not be writing recs for young ladies entering SMU.

For the sake of it, I hope the latter. But on the other hand, the lack of regulation can draw people in. This was a problem UAlbany had for years (and still has.)
But with SMU putting their foot down and Theta of course coming out against them, we can only hope it fades off soon and Theta can return.

The whole situation makes me almost sick to my stomach.
Apparently, the Theta house is not sitting idly. It looks like the house is being made available to female SMU students as "luxury student living for women."

@thetalady, do you know if the property is owned by FHC or is it still privately held by an alumnae housing corp? I am not on my laptop & using mobile device to search is not as easy as I would like.
Aside: I believe FHC wants to assume ownership of all facilities. This statement is based on personal communications with FHC going back 12+ years. A memorable quote: “ the days of alumnae managing properties are past. These are valuable assets.”
Sororities are about making $ and this is business.

I have been researching that very question. I hate to say that I haven't figured it out yet.
