Hi LaneSig,

When do you plan to start a 22/23 colonization/re-colonization thread?

Alpha Phi is recolonizing our Delta Alpha chapter at East Carolina University this Fall.

Thanks!

Theta Phi Alpha has closed their chapter at St. Cloud State per NPC release. They will have an emerging chapter at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, which currently has no NPC sororities.

This emerging chapter has closed, per their national website.

"At Southwestern Oklahoma State University, despite a great deal of effort from our volunteers, National Office staff, Grand Council members, and emerging chapter members, it was mutually agreed upon to separate by the local sorority of the university and Theta Phi Alpha".

Randomly discovered this today from Beloit

https://beloitcollegeroundtable.com/...ocal-sorority/

Beloit has another strong local and Kappa Delta. AST is becoming a new local as of January 2022.

That new chapter doesn't sound like a fun place to be. Quite an angry bunch for a social sorority.

While I am certainly not a fan of local sororities (since they often decide that hazing is a good idea), I can see their appeal. I have often questioned the wisdom of a NPC group opening a chapter at a small school where the student body is primarily local and they intend to stay local. Small chapters are difficult because the shared costs are spread to so few members. If the students see no benefit from a nationwide network of alumnae, why pay the costs?

Because a lot of colleges don't want to be responsible for locals that haze or don't get insurance. That's why the college where I used to teach made the locals go national.

From what I have seen at several colleges, a lot of locals--I guess due to not having national oversight--do their best to ignore colleges' demands that they cut the crap.

The other local at Beloit was a local, then became an NPC chapter and then went back to local. It seems like the type of place where locals may be a better fit. The new local seemed to have a lot of conflict with how things were run when they were NPC. IMO it’s better to just separate if you’re that far apart in ideals with an organization that’s over 100 years old and start your own.

Beloit is an interesting place.
