Homecoming and little 500 are the two biggest weeks at IU. It's not a 2 hour "mixer." They are week long pairs with events happening all week. And let's face it, they are big party weeks. There is a lot of risk that week -- Asking them to pair with a house they don't really know is a big ask. There is no way IFC would agree to that ask.

Pairs also refer to a one off party two a fraternity or sorority might have on the weekend, too, not just the pair for HC and Little 5. That's where some of the confusion comes in, as well.

Right, but it sounds like Panhellenic went right for the full montey asking for homecoming and little 5. They may want to start smaller next time.

By constantly mentioning “risk” it really doesn’t reflect well on the people involved in the Greek system. And considering there have been lots of stories over the years about this or that risk management nightmare happening during little 5 week, asking a group you’re acquainted with doesn’t seem so foolproof either.

^^^ SEE? This is why I deferred to IndianaSigKap!!

She’s right on: pairing does NOT have to occur just for “major” campus events. Creating opportunities just to meet new people and establish avenues of communication is a worthy and certainly achievable goal. It might just help to lessen the ridiculous IU tier hysteria.

I wonder what will happen when some of these “super-fratty” guys and “insta-famous” ladies have to work closely with someone with whom they’d deem socially inferior? Or—horrors—have one for a boss?

Hopefully they all have nice trust funds. The number one reason for being let go from a job is the inability to get along with co-workers.

Come on. There is a big difference between working with people at a legitimate job and partying till all hours (doing things you probably shouldn't do) in college.

Omg, I'm dying! I am about 2 seconds from violating about every Facebook rule and totally getting kicked off!

Some mom posted on the IU Sorority FB page that her daughter dropped from rush Sunday morning because of the 2 chapters she was invited back to. And then those two chapters offered her daughter snap bids and how insulting and ridiculous it was because they were the reason she dropped in the first place! People were asking her to clarify (I'm sure because no one could really believe she was saying what she was saying) which she doubled-down on. "No thanks, this (sic) two where (sic) after the first round a No for her. Looks like they have difficulties to get girls!!!" Yep, direct quote. From a mom. On a page where we obviously have MOMS OF GIRLS IN THOSE CHAPTERS!!!

I'm starting to see where it all comes from...

I saw that too. She was very obnoxious! It looks like she has already disaffiliated herself from that facebook page. And I have the impression that her first language is not English, probably German? I suppose maybe this whole process was new to her, but no reason for her to be rude.

I think you're right. I wonder if she was a short-term member on the site. Honestly, I think most of the moms and dads I've seen posting on there have done their best to be considerate of everyone on the page, realizing that there are all sorts of people in all sorts of situations. I hadn't really seen anyone that outright rude until then.

Hello there, Let me start by saying my husband and I were never greek. However our daughter wanted this experience. So we supported it. My daughter is on the recruitment side of rush. I did see that post on the FB page. There are others on another thread on that page about how their daughters also dropped after pref. They proceeded to say how it hurt when those two sororities they dropped offered them snap bids. I have also seen the Greekrank site. These things that are said by IU's "finest" (incl. Moms and dads) about some of our daughters and sons chapters are awful. I am glad my daughter has found a great group of girls. But it is so distressing to see the comments. I am so very disappointed in the greek community at IU.

It is foolish to believe that that site represent the IU greek community. Most of the people there aren't even in the greek system and probably don't go to IU (probably Purdue kids ). It's mostly people there just to stir stuff up.

I would like to believe that. But however I know ALL the sororities check it. Also have kept a occasional eye and information gets posted regularly before it even is released. So it is well visited by the Greeks at IU. It also is VERY active. It is just to stir stuff up. But at what cost?

Back to pairs- it is random at many universities and works just fine. The IU sororities were against RFM at one time. As my Panhellenic sister said, at least the sororities are trying to initiate change.

I saw that also. A few moms were quick to comment and put her in her place.

Oh a happy note.......it’s bid night! Anxiously awaiting good news. DD’s first choice is SK and her second is TPA. Since I can’t post on Facebook.....y’all are stuck with my excitement. Sorry in advance.
