Informal rush- out of state

Hi, I’m an out of state student going to Iowa State which runs on an informal recruitment system. Most of the recruitment is done over the summer, but it is a yearlong recruitment process. Like I said before I am an out of state student which means that I cannot attend any of the summer recruitment events. How do you guys think I should rush if I can’t make any of the summer events?

If you can't attend any summer events, make sure you find out when the Fall events are and go to them.

Also, check with different chapters' websites and FB pages and see if they have contact information for their rush chair. Send him/them a message and let them know that you will be attending in the Fall from oos and you are interested in their Fall rush events.

It looks like Iowa State also does one weekend of structured recruitment in the fall. This might be a nice option for you coming from out-of-state as you'll be able to learn more about the 32 fraternities currently on campus. You can get more information from IFC during your orientation, and may even be able to tour a chapter facility if time allows.

Otherwise, just get to know current members through classes and events on campus in the fall. Make sure you take the time to choose the best fit for you. The chapters on campus range in size from 20-130 members, and I believe all but a few are currently housed (some have gorgeous new houses - definitely different than when I was on campus 20+ years ago!). My nephew is a fraternity member at Iowa State and has really enjoyed his experience in his chapter.
