The Clio Sorority was founded at Geneseo in 1872 and at one point had ten chapters throughout New York/ Pennsylvania. Yours at Oswego was at one point the Iota chapter. In the early part of the century Alpha Sigma Alpha began petitioning Clio chapters to become Alpha Sigma Alpha. Our Chapter specifically was asked in 1943, but declined although a few chapters did join like yours. In 1953 the Chancellor of the SUNY system made the decision to disolve all nationally affiliated Greek organizations because of the racist policies of some. So at that point all of the remaining Clio chapters ended thier afilliation with each other as did Alpha Sigma Alpha chapters at SUNY. Some of the ASA chapters went back to being Clio, some created their own locals, etc. I think the national ban was lifted sometime in the 1980's, but most of the Clio chapters had closed by that time, so the only remaining ones are Alpha Clio, SUNY Geneseo, and Kappa Clio, SUNY Potsdam. So I guess our sororities are distantly related, lol.

Anyway there is no letter for Clio, we go by the letters Phi Kappa Pi. Hope that helps!

Yes thank you, that helps a lot. It's good to know that our sororities used to be related at some point lol. I was curious because I found some composites in our house with the letters Phi Kappa Pi on them, and I've met a couple brothers of Psi Phi Delta at SUNY Potsdam who told me that their sisters we're Phi Kappa Pi and I figured that somehow there had to be a relation, so it's good to finally understand it!

Just so you know, I am a member of the SUNY Geneseo Arethusa - Sigma Gamma Phi Sorority and unfortunatly -SUNY Oswego (Eta) is now dead. We only have Geneseo, Potsdam, Fredonia, and Oneonta.

Do you know when they closed, and what letters they went by?

Hello. Today the Delphic Society is known as The Delphic Fraternity. We presently have an active undergraduate chapter at the University of Virginia and two alumni chapters at SUNY New Paltz and Binghamton. I appreciate you listing us. Please note our chapter at Potsdam is dormant. Hope everything is well with your organization.

In Greek Unity,
The Delphic Fraternity, Inc.

Hello fellow Greeks:

I see that under Fraternities you list the Delphic Society's Baconian Chapter at Potsdam as active. Why is that?

No. Last time it was active in Potsdam was around 1933. Just curious as to why someone thought it was active?

I know this thread is like super old but I have an interesting story about locals gone national and then local again similar to the Alpha Sigma Chi story. In undergrad, I was in a local sorority Theta Kappa. In the early 1970’s until 1989 they were a chapter of Kappa Delta. While some things were changed, our secret motto, songs, and some of the ritual came straight from the ΚΔ playbook. Theta Kappa was briefly a colony of ΑΣΤ in the mid 90’s and went back to ΘΚ until 2010 when the sorority died out. Ironically, I ended up becoming an AI to ΑΣΑ in 2014.

UNC-Pembroke. ΚΔ re-established there around 2008ish and is thriving.
