Formal recruitment season is approaching quickly.

That being said...

I would like to take a moment to bump this wonderful thread to ensure that future generations of PNMs can see that it is possible to be truthful without being disrespectful.

I know we often preach that discretion is key, and it still is -- which prompted the whole assigning of code names to sororities for each recruitment story.

Disclose as much or as little info you want, but if you're going to post something along the lines of "Oh, so tonight I visited the TARGET house (if it was a major national store chain theme she had going on) and like, their rush skit was so cute and I really really really liked their outfits..." ...then I'm going to be blunt and say that you shouldn't even bother posting at all.

In a perfect world, all recruitment threads should be like this. That's all I have to say.

Curlygirly's thread is one of our most outstanding! But whether one should post actual names of houses would depend on how much information the PNM has revealed about herself. If she's revealed, say, she's from Delaware and she's going to Utah State, then she shouldn't use real names because she'd be too easy for members to identify. Or even if she's from a tiny town in Georgia and rushing at UGa or if she's already said she has curly red hair--how many redheads are there?

Think discretion, y'all! Even if we do want to know house names in the worst way!

Talking awwww

Thanks for bumping this thread!! I had completely forgotten about all this... but it was so nice to re-read it. Well to update... I graduated from U of F in December, and am now working in Miami (my hometown). kdonline and I **still** keep in touch, and meet up for lunch and all that... it's great. My 2 1/2 years in Kappa were wonderful (since I pledged as a sophomore, and graduated a semester early). I got my own little family... a little, a twin (my big got a 2nd little), a grand-little and then my twins little (whatever that is called!). hehe. I had an absolutely amazing time with all my sisters, and I am so glad that I decided to go through rush... even when I wasn't too sure about it. I visited Gainesville back in April, after I had graduated. When I walked into the house, it was the sweetest thing... everyone said hi to me as if I'd never left... and then moments later they'd say "OHMYGOD! It's YOU!" Like it just hit them that I was visiting... lol. They were all so wonderful, and I happened to be there for senior dinner night... so I was able to share that night with all of my pledge sisters that were leaving. We also got to *finally* take a family photo. (we're in some sort of order... grandlittle, little, me, big, twin, twins little)

In the past two Fall rushes since yours, I had really hoped that people took a look at your story.

LOL, and I know that not everyone can be an awesome writer like you -- and not everyone can have such a stellar journalism teacher like you did!

Rush stories have changed a lot in the past few years, and while we try to make it so that the PNM's rush experience is one that's fair and unbiased, one can't help but wish that all rush stories could be like yours. Some of these stories, I don't know...seem pretty useless.

Yours was actually worth reading and I don't think we've had anything like it since!

Talking aww thanks

aww... thanks for the compliments on my writing. I actually went back through the thread today reading over it... and it was like re-visiting this younger version of me. I had forgotten some of the thoughts and feelings I experienced during rush. It was definitely an exciting time that I don't want to go through again! LOL.

I haven't been active in greekchat since my first year in Kappa... I guess everything else got in the way, but it was definitely nice to read back on all this... and to have a record of my experience.

Oh, and I LOVE your signature!

Curly, I LOVED your rush story.....even if having that big honkin' "KKG" in your signature DID kind of ruin the surprise, lol. But it sounds like you had lots of fun at rush, and you chose the house that made you happy, and that's awesome. By the way, which sorority did your roommate decide on in the end? Phi Mu, or Sigma Kappa?

hehe...oops!

i'm sorry about my signature giving it away! I didn't realize that once you made a signature, it automatically added it to all of your previous posts! OOoops.

And to update on my roommate... she ended up picking Phi Mu, and loving it. She was active the rest of her time at UF, and very involved with them. She was president of her pledge class, and even won an award from Panhellenic for being so involved her first semester. She herself 'grew' her very own little family tree, and we'd go out often with her little and my little... and just have fun. And throughout the years she would tell me that she realized she ended up where she needed to be.. that she wouldn't have fit in with other houses.... lol! And I think the same is true for me... !

That's my favorite part about visiting the house--or even just running into sisters when I visit Providence! It's nice to be remembered like that.

#1 candidate for BEST RUSH THREAD EVER!

I'm so glad this thread was reposted. I read it from start to finish tonight, and agree.. it is outstanding! I graduated from UF, so this really brought back memories for me!!!

KKG had just started when I was in college, and they didn't have a house back then. One of the girls in my dorm (Trusler) was in KKG, and she loved it!

Are you planning to join your local alumnae chapter?

Wow, that's awesome I'm really happy that you're happy in Kappa, and I'm also happy that your roommate is happy in Phi Mu. Does she know about GC? If so, get her to come on here and introduce herself, and better yet, hop on over to the Phi Mu forum......no, I'm not a Phi Mu myself, but I'm sure they're all very nice. This would have to be my favourite rush thread ever, because it contained TWO happy endings in one.

Hahaha! My sister's only a junior in high school, but I already told her that if she starts a GC thread she had better not mention her town in Georgia and her curly red hair because everyone will know who she is! carnation, it's like you read my mind.

related to CurlyGirly's Kappa membership

Just had to post...

CurlyGirly came for a visit to Seattle & I took her by the Kappa house @ UW! The girls were so sweet - they took us on a tour of the house. It's beautiful!!!

My 1.5 yr old son was with us, too. Heh...I'm sure he'll love to tell his friends in 15 years that he was upstairs in the Kappa house, where guys are forbidden. And, funny that his first sorority house was not even MY sorority....

UW!!!

The UW house was GORGEOUS!!! And the girls were extremely nice and gracious... taking time out to give us a tour of the house and chat, even though they were in the middle of the event.

And yes... this was my first visit to another Kappa house... in my 4 or 5 years of being a sister... and it was a lot of fun!!! Traveling all the way to the other side of the country... and still having a 'connection' to someone.

Can't believe it's been so long since I started this thread!!!

BTW-- The Kappa house at UF is being renovated... the girls are living in the former KA house on fraternity row until the big unveiling in the fall. Should be very exciting... can't wait to see it!!
