Any tips?
Hello everyone!
I'm new here....and am also about to go through Rush. I have read through alot of the posts and I have to say that everyone has really put my mind at ease! When I first considered joining a sorority, I wasn't sure if it was the right thing for me. When I graduated high school, all the girls that rushed when they were freshman were nothing like me....and that is what I based my opinion of sororities on. Meaning, I didn't feel as though I was "sorority material," but, after reading everyone's opinions and statements, I feel as though I possess alot of the same qualites and opinions! Thank all of you for that! I was nervous about Rush, but now I feel more confident!
I am rushing at a small university in Louisiana. I was wondering if anyone in here had any tips that was from around the area. The university I am rushing only has four sororities and they all seem to be pretty cool girls. Any tips would be greatly appreciated...what is Rush here like? What should I expect, etc.
Thanks!! And I look forward to spending some time here getting to know everyone whether or not I get in!

love your screen name! (Go DMB!)
i say just be your sweet self. I also didn't think i was sorority material... to make all matters worse, my senior class did "Revenge of the Nerds" as their spirit week theme so i was all against greek life. but when you know what house you belong in when you and the other girls just click. you will know what i mean when you recruit. just follow your instinct. and believe me, your friends will be surprised. i can't tell you how many times i get the whole "you are in a sorority?" thing. i don't mind really. i just smile and say it was the best part of college.

Don't feel like you are sacrificing yourself by rushing. I never thought I was sorority material. Before I decided to rush (we have delayed rush) one of my friends who was a sophomore or junior (I was a frosh) told me he thought I would make a good Tri-Delt. I was actually angry that he could think of me as a sorority girl. But low and behold, I took an open attitude when rush came around and found that indeed, I want to be in a sorority and that it did not make me a different person.
So, have fun and good luck!

Be yourself, be outgoing, and be very open minded. Get out there and meet new people, because if nothing else, you can always walk away with a great experience. Choose the chapter that fits you right

i know nothing about the colleges in louisiana but still go in with an open mind....dont pretend to be somebody you aren't....and if you are unsure of things ask questions. don't worry about it though because you will find the sorority that is right for you, the one that you feel most comfortable with, and the one that you can be yourself in. recruitment is so much fun and it gives you a chance to meet a lot of wonderful women. g'luck with everything and keep us posted on what happens

i have a silly question now....any opinions on how sororities feel about smokers? hehe! and about piercings...i have a small diamond stud in my nose....will that rub them the wrong way? hahaha! thanks, ya'll!

answers to your questions
That all really depends on campus atmosphere. If you are one of the only girls on campus with a nose piercing, yes, the sororities will take note of that. You'll be "the girl with the pierced nose" to all the sisters who can't remember your name during rush week. Maybe you are ok with that, maybe not. Don't change who you are, but if you think it's ok I think it would be smart to take the piercing out during rush week. It's not going to help your chances, and some sorority girls might think it's weird or that you're weird. And after all, it's just an accessory. You probably wouldn't wear it to a job interview, so you probably shouldn't wear it to rush.
About smoking cigarettes... during rush no one will know if you do or not. There are smokers in sororities, but how many depends on the house and the school. I don't see that being an issue during formal rush week. It's not like you'd be lighting up cigarettes during the rush parties or anything.
