Is that secondary quota for sophomores and up, or juniors and up? I'm guessing the former because you said primary quota was for freshmen.

Wow! That's interesting, given the massive boom comprable schools with Greek life have been seeing.

Lower quota
I'm beginning to think the tougher admissions standards and changing demographics are lowering the amount of interest in Greek life. UT is more like UCLA now than Albama or LSU.

The size of the system and the size of quota reminds me of University of Illinois. Illinois has 19 sororities and, IIRC, quota roughly aroudn 50-60.

I guess I disagree completely with this. Illinois has 19 NPCs, Texas has only 14, which is small for the size school. Texas needs more sororities, but the system is elitist and unfriendly to change. The system at Illinois is the total opposite - very Midwestern in feel and not terribly competitive.

Well I know with lots of my daughters friends they couldn't get into UT. They now only take top 8% as automatic admission. More of her friends and alumni kids this year went out of state or private universities. When we went on a campus visit last spring they specifically told us that it doesn't matter who your parents are, they want diversity and unique. I think this reflects in the Greeklife culture specifically in this environment and city where for more and more it really isn't their thing. My daughter also had several friends who thought it would be to hard to juggle sorority and classwork especially her good friends that got into McCombs business school.
We are still trying to figure what she will want to balance should she get in here this year or if she chooses to go elsewhere.

Totally agree
^^^agree!
Getting accepted at UT is so difficult now. My high school senior daughter has decided on Florida or Auburn. Most of her friends are going out of state next year. And they all have great test scores,GPAs, etc. They simply aren't in the top 8% at their competitive schools.

My senior son goes to a private non-ranking high school. He's got automatic admin to other big state schools schools WITH money promised, and a very slim chance of getting into UT. While it makes me sad in a nostalgic way (his dad and I met at UT), we have to deal in reality.

Wow. That is 61 and if all 14 groups bid quota that would be 854 girls and 300 girls cut or dropped completely out. 74% placement rate. Not a positive trend.
