Going to College at 65, and Going Greek as Well

Nice article about a man at the University of Virginia and his initiation into Chi Phi fraternity.

I love that the interviewer asked him about Blue Pulasky.

Blue! My BOY!!

This is a wonderful story!
I also liked this:

Quote:
Q. Detail the initiation process.

A. It’s interesting and it’s completely secret. It’s very solemn, and you know you are joining something that makes you part of a family.
and

Quote:
Q. What’s your current grade point average?

A. 3.55

Q. Isn’t there room for improvement, young man?

A. I want a 3.7.

This is an awesome story!

Thank you for sharing. I hope that Mr. Reid is doing well. I cannot but feel pride in his decision to attend college at that age and to join a fraternity. Good for him, truly. And good for the young men who accepted and treated him with dignity & respect.

I do wonder about the following in the article:

Quote:
well, I didn’t have to pledge. I simply initiated, thanks to a very good friend, Jim Soderquist, he’s the Grand Alpha of Chi Phi — the top guy in the national organization.

I'm guessing that the leaders of Chi Phi and the undergrads at Virginia chose to waive the usual pledging requirements. It would be along the lines of an alumnus initiate.
