They got him!
I just read that the suspect was apprehended in Atlanta. Scary that he was in my town! I hope that you Louisiana ladies will rest easier now that he's been caught.

Thank God!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The serial killer is caught!!!
It is what we've all been praying for! My heart goes out to the victims families who have to go through this all over again.
ATLANTA (May 27) - The man suspected of killing six women in Louisiana was arrested in Atlanta on Tuesday, the FBI said.
Derrick Todd Lee, 34, was taken into custody about 8:30 p.m. by Atlanta police working with a joint FBI-metropolitan Atlanta task force, FBI spokesman Joe Parris said.
Parris said he did not know where Lee was arrested. The suspect had been living in a dingy Atlanta motel but left Monday about the time a federal fugitive warrant was issued for his arrest.
''It is my understanding he was arrested without incident,'' Parris said.
Authorities suspect Lee of killing at least five southern Louisiana women since September 2001, as well as two earlier slayings.
The serial killings unnerved Louisiana women and triggered a 10-month DNA dragnet in which police took cheek scrapings and swabbings from more than 1,000 men.

We can only hope tht this is true!
Just because this guy has been arrested, there are many tests to be run to verify!
While he was arrested for a reason is not a dead bang situation! Beleive me I know being an ex officer and in the Detective Bureau. It can get frustrating unless you as the Law Enforcenment can prove without a reasonable doubt.
Please make sure he is the right one so the women can feel good about going somewhere.

well, the reason he became the main suspect was because DNA tests conclusively linked him the rape and murder of the last victim, Carrie Yoder. DNA from her body had already been linked to the body of 4 other victims. so, in this case, it looks like they've got the right guy. at last.

Boy, did he get around. There were several articles in today's paper that linked him to places all over La. I wonder how many cold cases they will be able to close.
I am so happy about this. Now, like Tom says, I hope this is THE one and there isn't some other animal out there that is responsible for cases they DON'T have DNA on. Wouldn't it be great if they could get him to confess to some of the murders the police have given up on solving? Not to start another death penalty debate, but I hope they gas/fry/hang/inject him and while we are at it, cut off his head!

I'm so glad they finally have this guy!
I feel so bad for the families though. I pray that they can get through this horrible time. Pam Kinamore's mother said on the news last night that the cops DID NOT call her and tell her that he had been caught. She also said that she felt the reason why they didn't tell her is because she has been so outspoken about the police. I don't blame her one bit. Her daughter was murdered! She has every right to be upset and accuse the police of doing a pi$$ poor job!! I would be doing the same if I was in her position!
You know, every thing happens for a reason and the Lord has a funny way of working things out. Remember when the police wouldn't ask for help and wouldn't speak to the guys who had studied serial killers because they wanted to get the credit for capturing this guy?? Well, look who got the credit....the Atlanta police!!! That just goes to show you that it doesn't pay to be greedy.

Yeah, I'm really happy the BRPD didn't catch him - they all wanted the glory so badly that it got in the way of the investigation. Yay for Atlanta PD!

Public safety suffers because agencies cannot work together. What a surprise. Glad I'm not under the illusion that law enforcement actually serves and protects.

I am one of those people who fully support the police and appreciate the risks they take just stopping a car to check a license. It isn't the individuals, it's the department heads that
set the tone of the "attitudes" we see in their work ethics. After all, it WAS good old detective work and a nose for crime that solved this case. Ieyoub described the detective as a bloodhound-able to sniff out the clues. Then, there's our criminal system. Why he was NOT in jail for his past crimes is just as important a question as why they didn't share information. This man should have been locked up years ago. It's the ability to "plea bargain" that adds to the criminals we have walking around. The sad truth is, there will always be a Jefrey Dammer, a "Son of Sam" , Malvo or Lee somewhere in our midst. What seems to be consistent is the fact that these maniacs didn't start out committing horrendous acts, they escalated. At what point do we recognize them for what they are-demons? At what point do be say rehabilitation is not a possibility? We need tougher penalties for crimes against mankind, be it assault, rape or murder. Also, lets quit playing "Let's Make a Deal" with miscreants!

I just wanted to post my thoughts on the law enforcement here in good ol' Baton Rouge. (Given the track record of this fine state, I can't say I'm suprised, though) To sum it up in a few words:
THEY SUCK!!!
I am so angry! The nerve of the police department to hold a press confrence to say "thanks" to all the departments for helping solve the case. Do you know which department was left OFF the list???? The Attorney General's office who swabbed Derrick Lee!!!!
Also, they haven't kept the lines of communication open with the families of the victims. Pam Kinamore's mother found out through the news that her daughter's murderer was caught, and Mary Anne Fowler's son found out also through the news that the police were trying to link Derrick Lee to his mother's disappearance. These people have suffered enough, don't you think the police owe them the courtesy of keeping them informed on the case???
Also, on the news last night, a girl called the tipline after Murry Pace's murder and said that she saw a black man (fitting the description of who we now know as Derrick Lee) in the parking lot of the Sharlo townhomes. He was masterbating and she told the police everything, but was told that he was probablly just a "peeping tom" and that the police were looking for a white man for the serial killer, not a black man.
Last, but certainly not least, this guy had many prior encounters with the law. Instead of wasting money on swabbing over 1 thousand white men in the BR area, why didn't they check prior guys who had already been arrested???? Also, the police stated that when they went to get his DNA, his demeanor changed from polite to "very aggitated". Why would you take someone's DNA who was aggitated and then not follow them??? How could they let him get away???
As soon as the law enforcement in this town starts doing their job correctly, I will give them all the praise they deserve, but until then, I am sickend that those people are supposed to be protecting me.

Your anger and the anger of the parents is justified! Juniorgrrl was saying the same things about the BRPD several posts back.
In our paper, the mother said she felt she wasn't informed due to her speaking out, critical of the dept. The facts that you noted nauseate me. I cannot beLIEVE they wouldn't follow up on those reports!!! They need to get rid of the chief and as the Mayor holds great influence, maybe HIS position should be called into question as well. What is soooooo incredible is that THIS type of circus took place in our state's capitol!!! I am literally sick!
Those poor, poor parents. I think I'd have to be put away, because I don't think I could ever have peace. Every person involved in this animal's criminal history of leniency should have to face the parents and visit the graves of those young women.

Just to add fuel to the fire...
I heard on the news that the parents didn't learn from the Task Force or any authorities that their daughters had been sexually assulted - they heard it on the evening news like the rest of us!

Adding more fuel to the fire......
They were sitting on a gold mine and couldn't see beyond their own noses.

this could have been solved last summer!!! Pam Kinamore, Dene Colomb and Carrie Yoder would still be alive.
