Career Change

I absolutely hate my job!!

Even though I have a college degree I am seriously considering getting a job at TGI Fridays cleaning tables. I just found out from my brother-in-law last night that they get paid more than I do. The get paid like a server and instead of getting a tip they get a percentage of sales.

This would be a totally no-brainer job and I would at least get to talk to somebody and get paid more.

What do you guys think?

Got any other job suggestions?

Right now I am a Researcher for an Engineering Firm. It's a ton of work and I get paid squat. I have to drive 45 minutes to and from work and I hate most of the people I work with which is 3 out of the other 4 people that are here.

I'm always in fear of not getting a paycheck because my bosses wife has a bad habit of spending a lot of money.

The job is going no where. I have already gotten the only promotion I can get. It just flat out sucks!!!!

No brainer.. take the new job part time. If you like it then go full time and quit the other job.

Yeah, it does sound like your job sucks, but I think it would be a better idea for you to look for a different job in your field, rather than working at Friday's. Working there might be fun for now, but it certainly won't help you in your career -- if in the future you try to get another job in engineering, I don't think a potential employer would be impressed that you quit a job at an engineering firm to clean tables. It might be nice to make more money now, but I don't think that a move to Friday's will be good for you career in the long term -- if that matters to you. If not, go for it.

KillarneyRose, I just PM'd you back

valkyrie,
I don't exactly want another job in this field. Have you ever wanted to poke your eyes out at work? I want to do this everyday!! I am most likely getting ready to move again because of my husbands job so I'll be quitting anyway. I don't want to stick it out, I'd rather do something where I had a little bit more interaction with people. I just have one of those jobs that when you go to lunch everyday you seriously consider NOT going back to work. Most of the time on the way home from work my brain is numb as I don't even know how I get home sometimes.

I'm probably going to decide tonight so I'll let you guys know.

Ack... sounds like a nightmare.

Getting a job I truly hate when I get out of school is one of my worst fears (which is why I need to start looking at my grad school options )

Well I still don't have a new job

The job market in my area pretty much sucks. I live 1/2 way in between Columbus and Cleveland but I do not want to drive an hour or more!

Can't I just stay at home and work? Does anyone else do this?

Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!
