FSU Spring Rush
Hello all!
I am attending Florida State next semester and I look forward to participating in Winterfest there! I have been speaking to the Greek Life office at FSU, and the girl that I have been emailing said that recommendations were not encouraged during spring recruitment, is this true? Also, does anyone know what chapters are accepting pledges?
Thank you so much!

I am very surprised to hear that someone told you that recommendations are not encouraged at FSU for spring recruitment. I would encourage you to get recommendations lined up for as many sororities as you can. While the Greek life office will not know now which chapters will have space available spring semester, you should hedge your bet and start working now on recs. if a chapter does not need to rush in the spring, but they receive recommendations, they will simply discard them. Good luck.

I was very surprised to hear that too. Is there anyone that can tell me what to expect from spring recruitment?

There is usually a day when all the groups seeking new members will have tables with info, and you can sign up for house tours, etc. at that time. I agree with my sister, line up recommendations and get them mailed in after school resumes in January and the new officers are in place. You run the risk of having letters go astray if you send them at the end of office terms.

Winterfest is scheduled for January 14th, so if I send in recommendations in January (the semester starts the 7th) will there be enough time to have them considered?

My personal feeling is that they should have them before that day so that they will know to look for you when you come around to the event.

That's right Titchou. Having the rec. before Winterfest will be helpful to both the PNM and the sorority members.

Should I go ahead and get recs for all of the chapters at the school even though some of them probably aren't participating?

HI eahale496. While I cannot answer your most recent question, I do want you to be aware that your user name along with your university likely provides too much identifying information. You have not posted anything untoward but you may consider changing your user name (if administrators permit) or starting a new account once you get your questions answered!
Put your best feet forward and good luck with recruitment!

To be safe, I would get recs. for all chapters at FSU.

Okay, one last question. What do I wear?

I suspect that your outfit(s) would probably depend on the activity(ies) that you're attending. Spring recruitment is informal, compared to Fall, which is much more structured. So, for example, you might be invited to an ice cream social or bowling or something of the sort. That would make it pretty easy to figure out what you need to wear. I suspect the chapter(s) would also give a suggestion in the invite (e.g. business casual). Hope this helps! Good luck to you.

As for Winterfest itself, I would say what is commonly called business casual would more than suffice.
