Post Rush

Hi all. These forums are great~my first time posting. Anyway, I have a couple questions amd I hope someone will be able to help me out. I am going to be rushing really soon, but a couple things about it still confuse me. I know that you go to parties to find out more about the sororities and stuff, and I know that if the sisters like you they invite you back. I have a pretty good idea of what the first round of rush parties are like, I was just wondering what the second round of parties are like...are they just like the first round? Ok, this is my last question. What are the pref parties like? Are they just like the normal rush parties, too? I'm just trying to get an idea of what it's like so that I'm not as nervous. Thank you so much:-)

It's cool that it's your first time posting but for future reference there is a whole forum called "rush". You should post this in there.

Hey Magg! I haven't gone through rush yet, but from what I understand the pref party lasts longer than the first round of rush parties. Then again, I don't have any experience in this so I could be wrong...just trying to help you out. So, don't quote me on this, but I think at the first round of parties you just go around and talk to the sisters and ask them some questions about stuff in their sorority that you find interesting, and I have no idea what goes on at the 2nd round of parties. I hope this helps you out a little, and sorry if I got this wrong but that's how I understood it to go. Good luck!!!

I am going to be rushing really soon, but a couple things about it still confuse me. I know that you go to parties to find out more about the sororities and stuff, and I know that if the sisters like you they invite you back. Second and third round parties are usually longer than first round. Most likely your second round party will be a Philanthropy party, here you will work with one or more sisters on a project that supports their national philanthropy. It's a great way to learn about their philanthropy and talk in a relaxed atmosphere.

Third round is usually skit day - the sisters put on a skit (with music) about joining their group, why it's great, etc. There is more conversation this day, too.

Ok, this is my last question. What are the pref parties like? Are they just like the normal rush parties, too? I'm just trying to get an idea of what it's like so that I'm not as nervous. Thank you so much:-)

Preferentials are usually hour long events that center around a preference ceremony. These ceremonies give sisters an opportunity to tell you how much their sorority means to them AND to give you a chance to really think about and consider that particular chapter. These are dressier events - you should wear a nice dress, but not a long gown like a prom dress.

For all events, relax and be yourself. Research the sororities on your chosen campus so you can ask pertinent questions about the chapter and their activities. Remember, you are interviewing the chapter just as much as they are interviewing you. See my FAQ page for more hints.
