Informal because it's more relaxed

I like informal rush a whole lot better. You could choose what time you wanted to hold the event, it wasn't an all night thing, there were less girls to deal with (meaning that you didn't have to see 200 girls in one night)--you didn't forget names, more relaxed. All around more comfortable. It seems to me that informal rush is better because the girls that want you come to you, In formal rush, it seems to be more of a guessing game.

My sorority (Alpha Sigma Kappa) only does informal rush - we're not a part of Panhellenic, so we don't participate in the formal rush they sponsor at the beginning of each fall. Informal rush works well for us, it's a lot more comfortable for the rush guests and the sisters!

In my chapter (sigma alpha iota), we have a night of formal, a night of informal and a third night with skits and recitals that the sisters give the rushees. on the first night of rush, we start our silence period where we will not talk to the rushees about anything regarding SAI. i think a little of everything is important.

Okay,
So maybe I'm crazy, but I love formal rush. I know that it takes a lot more time, energy and effort, but it's only one week. I love all aspects of it. Now, granted when I rushed it was first week of my freshman year, so it was very scary, but I was so impressed that these girls (my future sisters and fellow NPC sisters) took that much time, energy, and effort. That they were that proud of their house, and their ideals.
The year after I went through, our campus switched to a deferred rush. This allows the girls going through rush to be better settled in on the campus. I think that deferred rush with a formal in the winter is the best way to go.

etienne--
just a couple questions for you... you said the 1st night you don't talk to the rushees about SAI? Is this only for that night? Why.. are you trying to just get to know them and stuff?
Just curious, because it seems kind of strange that you wouldn't talk to them about SAI if that's really why they are there.. but I'm sure there is some logic behind that.

Kimberleigh, I like formal rush too! I went through formal rush and enjoyed it very much. It's true that informal rush is, well, more informal, but I like the organized aspect of formal rush. I think it is, overall, more well done than informal rush at our school. I must be a structure freak or something
