Extension would be great... but there is a lack of real estate and any org that opened there would have to have the capital to build a new house nearly immediately (like Tri Sigma). Phi Mu and Sigma Kappa were lucky to still "have" their houses, so they could renovate when they re-colonized.
Its just a really expensive campus to get onto... But the numbers are simply TOO big!
15 chapters and nearly 2000 PNMs? INSANITY!

Today is move in day, and it's pouring down rain. Open house round is Monday and Tuesday. Sisterhood is Wednesday and Thursday (up to 11 houses). Friday is Philanthropy (up to 7), and on Saturday, it's Pref. (Up to 3). Sunday is bid day.

Hi Pearl alum

You asked for updates from Mizzou:

My daughter is rushing there. They are finishing round 2 today. Don't know #s but have heard that cuts were pretty big on first day (each house has to cut a certain percentage each day, correct?) My daughter heard of people who went back to 11 of 11 possible houses for this round, but there were also girls who only had a few houses on their schedule for round 2. She did not have a totally full schedule, but went back to quite a few. She's returning to all of her round 1 favorites, which is great, and also found another house that did not stand out in round 1 but that she really liked this time. Interested to hear how she likes the houses she is visiting today.

Let's call the houses she likes the best so far by these names (please don't read to much into this--I just picked some characters at random from a mythology book):

Athena
Freya
Kwan Yin
Gaia
Tara

She went to Tara and Gaia yesterday, along with some other houses.

Today she'll visit Athena, Freya and Kwan Yin.

After round one, Athena was her fav. We'll see how she feels after finishing up today.

Has anyone heard #s re: how many girls have dropped out or been released? I heard that one group of girls got released for skipping a party in the first round.

Second day of recruitment today. PNM's will visit the second half of houses today. Going well so far. My daughter's house has worked VERY hard to prepare and are so excited about how it's going. It's SO huge at Miz with almost 2000 pnm's. Seems voices are gone already!

I mean, they've already loaned millions of dollars to other sororities to build. 30 years is plenty of time to repay the loan! I'm just going to keep hoping and hopefully one day, sooner rather than later, it will happen.

What I don't understand is that we did submit in 2007 (for 2008) with Alpha Phi and Delta Gamma, when they were selected to be stacked. At least according to the Colonies/Expansion thread from that year. So I don't understand what the hold up is now, if we were interested then, and greek life keeps growing and the options for a house are there, etc etc, why shouldn't we be interested now?
The economy took a bath in 2008. It's possible that resources which were available in 2007 are no longer where they need to be for your HQ to feel comfortable with the level of risk.

Also, the 2014/15 Colonies/ Expansions thread lists Alpha Xi Delta scheduled for four colonies! That takes a lot of woman-power, both locally and nationally. And you most likely place consultants on that campus for an extended period which limits the number of consultants who can visit other chapters. So...lots of "resource allocation" considerations.

AXiD has had a very strong presence at UW promoting their colony. I can't imagine all the resources needed just for our campus, let alone any others. I am really excited to see how recruitment goes for them.

The granddaughter of a woman I know just moved in, with the other freshmen. I have watched this young woman grow up since she was about five, and I'm trying to make her grandmother realize that, if she wants to go greek, she NEEDS recs. Here's hoping that she'll see the light in oh, an hour or two!!

Oh, Honeychile, that's such a frustrating experience. I've been there, Chicken Little, telling mom and daughter, that "Yes, you DO need recs for southern schools, Indiana...." And having mom say, "No problem, she's going XYZ....." Or, "she has friends..." Sigh.

Moms! Listen up!! Every. Single. Girl. In. Competitive. Recruitments. Is pretty darn stellar in one way or another, most often, stellar in multiple ways.

Well, it's settled. Wonderful PNM will not be going through Recruitment this year, but will possibly go for next year. Interestingly, her younger sister may be going through the year afterwards.
