University of Kentucky will be opening in the next year or so. There was interest expressed by Sigma Kappa (re-opening their chapter that closed here several years ago) but I believed they either passed on that opportunity.

After recruitment this coming August, chapter total will be approaching 250+ most likely which is far too large for this campus.

Wow. I am not sure, but I beleive 250 may be more than twice the average chapter size from when I was at UK.

Granted that was back in the last century.

Yeah, me too. I was at UK 93-96 at total was 90. it's 220 now, I'm expecting a pledge class of 85-100 (last year quota was 82) which will push total up to around 250 I suspect.

it's crazy. None of these houses were designed to handle chapters this big. It's great that the system is as successful as it is, but we need another chapter. Kinda sad Sigma Kappa didn't decide to return this fall. Hopefully they'll be part of the discussion when it officially opens for expansion.

Isn't the land on Rose Lane from around Transylvania Park over to Woodland Avenue designated (zoned) for GLOs? If so, I suspect the sorority selected will have to be willing to build there. The up side is that the UK Administration continues to be supportive of new Greek housing.

I am good friends with members of Xi Chapter and I know they would love to have their chapter back at UK as well.

UF is open for extension. They voted last spring. PC is putting together a team for the presentations of the groups that are interested. Presentations will take place this fall with the hopes of the new house colonizing in 2015. There are now lots available to build a house (a must at UF) over by fraternity row. It will be interesting to see who presents! There are three NPCs with closed chapters but two of them are smaller and I am not sure what their ability would be to build a house right away.

For some reason, new chapters struggle at UK, when the numbers are their to support them. The exception being Alpha Phi. Phi Mu had a successful recruitment year this fall I 'm glad to report.
But since I've graduated, darks ages ago like TSteven, ZTA, Alpha XI Delta, and Gamma Phi Beta have closed. Sigma Kappa has come and gone, and I believe DZ recolonized after a brief hiatus. In the early 1970's we had an Alpha Chi Omega chapter that colonized the same year as Gamma Phi. Neither lasted long.
I heard a rumour several years ago that Alpha Chi was a potential recolonization. That would be great as there are no other AXO chapters in Kentucky, and I know several Ky girls pledged at Alabama in the last few years.

Total is now 249 at Kentucky. For a "less Greek" SEC school, that's an awfully big number!

Another school to watch will be East Carolina after two years of record breaking numbers. The only drawback at ECU is finding viable housing.

This statement can be applied to many schools on this list!

I think that could be overcome if a group bought a couple houses near campus, tore them down and built from scratch. It would be pricey but could work.

Is retention an issue at ECU? With quota in the 70s, total of 154 seems low.

Does anyone know if U of F has made a decision concerning bringing another sorority to campus?

UF Panhellenic did vote to expand. I'm just speculating, but that announcement was made around June 1, so I would guess the actual selection of finalists and presentations won't be made until Fall.

Regarding UF, I know they're open for expansion. I don't know anything about if or who has submitted packets. I think presentations would be in the fall, because the sorority is supposed to colonize Fall 2015.

And regarding UK, fingers crossed, for if and when they open
