University Of Colorado Flooding

The University of Colorado, Boulder is experiencing massive floods due to rain.

http://www.9news.com/news/article/35...pnews|bc|large

The University Of Colorado is closed. Hwy 36 is closed.

I am unsure of the GLO houses down there. I believe some have basements but am unsure. Alpha Phi has a moat next to Delta Delta Delta. 500 graduate and family housing residents have been evacuated.
Boulder Creek is a mess.

More rain is expected. I seriously doubt that the University Of Denver will have issues.
This is very unusual. Boulder Creek will flood but the nothing like this.

Last night people were stranded on northern Hwy 93. I have friends who have water in their homes. Left Hand Canyon is closed. There are several burn areas in and Boulder.

There are issues in Colorado Springs. One death down there. Colorado College could be effected but not so much as CU.

My daughter is at CU, lives in the Tri Delta house. The houses are scattered on the "Hill" but you are right, they have basements that could have flooding. I have not heard directly from my daughter yet this morning but have sent texts and voice mails. Since the school is closed, I'm betting the students are getting a day to sleep in just a bit. I'll post news when I hear something.

Many of the houses have basements.

I've heard from all my people and they are alright. Most were down south of Denver last night visiting family.

I just saw a post from CU that campus will be closed Friday so that repairs and "assessments" may be made around campus.

All house corporations need to purchase flood insurance. It's so inexpensive and flood damage is often catastrophic. You're required to carry it if you're in a flood plain, but if you're not, you can elect to have that coverage.

Had an update from my daughter, about an hour ago...she said "25% of the campus has some sort of water damage, (about 40 buildings) and 22 people on campus have been evacuated (very likely in low lying married student housing area). Also 11 individuals will be required to be out of their dorm for the semester due to water damage. More news to follow. Last time we actually talked, she said the rain was coming down again. Also, she said students got a flash text from CU that "a wall of water" was coming down the canyon and to avoid being near the creek due to flash flooding. Scarry.

That was exactly how my boyfriend's sister described it.
