Dealing with Rush Week

This is my first Rush Week as a brother and I heard stories about how bad it is dealing with all these freshman who only want to party. I know from experience my first rush week as a freshman myself I was the "try hard" type. So how do you deal with these people?

And most of all should I tell the truth about everything about our fraternity, including the increase in dues making ours the highest on campus and how we are about to lose our house? Or should I lie?

This sounds like something you need to discuss with your brothers, honestly.

Outright lying is NEVER a good solution to any dilemma.

Do you have another (cheaper) house in the pipeline? Or are you going to be homeless? It seems to me that if you're honest about the money situation, it will take care of weeding out the only-want-to-party dudes.

That being said, you and your brothers need to sit down and agree on what you're going to say regarding the $$ and house situation. If brother A tells Ron Rushee there's no problem and brother B tells Ron you might want to start liking shopping at Goodwill if you pledge here because we are butt ass broke, even the guys who would have stuck around knowing there are tough times ahead will bail because of the lies and inconsistency.

And I'm going to guess dishonesty is inconsistent with the values you'll be telling rushees your fraternity stands for.
