There is no upper class quota, and upperclass women do get bids. The numbers are great!
We have a longtime friend that is going through as a sophomore. She had a full schedule today, so hopefully everything will continue to go well for her.

It could be an attempt to minimize, however little, the importance of recs. The process does seem to have taken on a life of its own and whether that is for the better or it's just busy work for all involved is unclear. If everyone has a rec, how much value can one really have?

I think it is a particular disservice at OSU (and possibly other similar schools). OSU attracts a lot of students from more rural areas of the state. Without recs, no one has any idea who these girls are or if they understand greek life. They wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell without recs (and they struggle the most to find them.)
If a PNM like the Panhellenic president is from Tulsa or OKC, she might have connections and could possibly squeak by without a rec (albeit with limited options).

Wait a minute? Do they do recruitment early or is school actually in session, effective tomorrow?! Is that possible?!? It's still summer!
Sorry to hijack...

Recruitment is prior to the start of school. Next week is welcome week, then school starts. Sorority girls are headed to Stillwater for work week in July.

And the fact that she is the Panhellenic president does NOT mean she necessarily had a great recruitment, either.

And the fact that she's the Panhellenic President means that she could have gone through recruitment 3+ years ago. Things change.

Right - to be blunt, there are probably 4 chapters at OSU where a PNM could get a bid without a rec, but do PNMs want to be THAT limited? (And that doesn't mean those 4 chapters will take anyone - they won't. But, I would imagine a nice girl who makes a good impression during recruitment could get by there if the chips fell into place for her.)

I was happy to see that they said "yes you should get recs". Then to see what they said about recs in a separate document was confusing. Last year during a school visit my daughter was told by Greek Life that letters of rec weren't necessary. Thank goodness we stumbled upon Greek Chat and learned that wasn't necessarily truth in practice.

One of my rec girls updated that she has a full schedule this round and is having the time of her life. She has 2 definite favorites. She is a legacy to a third chapter that is not one of the favorites. I am hoping that doesn't come back to bite her, since legacy chapter is still on her list. I haven't heard from my other OSU girls.

Bid day tomorrow and I think everybody is ready. It's a long tiring week on both sides of the fence.
