It is not an official rush. Different fraternities will hold events-usually off campus-throughout the summer to get to know potential members, and some may even offer "bids" toward the end of the summer, to take the guys off the common market. Official bids cannot be extended until the appropriate time in the fall, as sanctioned by the IFC and Ole Miss. It is rumored that some fraternities have the majority of their pledge classes picked out by the time school begins, but other fraternities are interested in getting to know men in the fall and will wait until then to begin making their membership decisions.
I would say go to any parties that you want to attend over the summer. Keep it low key and be mindful of your behavior-not too uptight and not the slobbery drunk who makes a fool out of himself. You are being looked over and should keep in that in mind.
