Local absorbed by NPC - legacy status?

I just found out that the local sorority my mother was in at college in the late 50s/early 60s was absorbed by KKG in the 90s. This doesn't confer legacy status on her granddaughters...or does it? I mean, she was never initiated into KKG.

No. She'd have to have been initiated into Kappa Kappa Gamma for you to be a legacy. She may have been offered the chance (NPC groups often invite a local's alumnae to be initiated), but did not accept for whatever reason.
However, it is an interesting fact that you'll want to make your KKG recommendation writers aware of. Just my opinion, though, since I'm not KKG!

To the best of my understanding, there is no legacy status unless your mother was initiated into Kappa.

How long does the invitation for initiation last for the alumnae of a local?

That would be a great question for either headquarters or someone much more knowledgeable than I am. I honestly don't know.
