Tell me your best tent talk stories

When I went through recruitment, TPA was new on campus and it was their first formal recruitment. This girl in my group kept telling everyone she was friends with basically ever sorority member ever and that TPA was the "free space" (as in Bingo..it's just a given and no one is excluded) and that they'll take ANYONE because they're new and "need the numbers." They kept inviting me back despite my heavy cuts so it kind of got in my head....till that girl (and a few others in my group) got cut!!
FYI- she was dismissed from recruitment (I'm guessing because of her attitude) and I can assure you I got some nasty looks from her when I showed up to the class we had together with my TPA bag!

The "hand signals" one was always talked about (to tell if the girl is cut or not)!

AB will only take double legacies (mother & grandmother) because there are so many legacies.

XYZ has girls stand in their underwear while a group from DEF fraternity comes in and circles areas they need to lose weight on their bodies.

XYZ will only invite back girls if they're wearing True Religion or Seven Jeans.

GHI makes first cuts based on your rush registration photos.

All girls in ABC smoke, and if you don't they won't give you a bid.

The girls in DEF are all socially awkward and therefor give bids to anyone.

There's always one chapter (tends to rotate to a different one every 5 years) that is "on probation for hazing" and "about to close."

My other favorite is "XYZ is the fat sorority." The funniest thing about the "fat" chapter is that the "fat" girls are usually a handful of women who are *gasp* like size 10.

ABC makes the pledges sit on a washing machine and circles anything that jiggles

DEF makes their pledges swallow a live goldfish

GHI Made the pledges take shots from in between a guys legs

So what have these tent stories revealed? That most rumors come out of truth. In the case where ABC only takes girls who date DKE, this was started because every active dated guys in that fraternity, it's similar to ABC is Blonde or an education major. Birds of a feather do flock together. I wish I could say my school had outlandish gossip in recruitment but the stories all stemmed from things our family members had said. Even the rumor that FGH ran over a pledge turned out to be true, even if it happened way before we were in college. The question is who starts the rumors? How do so many pnm know that KLZ is on probation for low numbers, and yes they will give bids to every girl and hope 50 accept. Tent talk adds predjudices to recruitment that can change the opinions and actions of impressionable freshman

Agreed. Most tent talk is rumor based. ABCs only date DEFs could not be true on most campuses, because 9 times out of 10, the sororities are waaaay bigger than the fraternities, so unless the ABCs were down for some sort of "sister-wife" situation, sorry, but that dog don't hunt.

Ooh, I have some and I haven't even gone through rush yet. These are just the rumors that I've heard on campus in my year of school, but I'm not going to repeat them or let them influence me come August.

ABC only hangs out with each other and no one else-considering I NEVER saw these girls wearing letters even though they're the largest chapter on campus, it wouldn't surprise me if this one was true. ABC also apparently only gives bids to Southern girls, despite the fact that I've seen ABC letters on cars with Massachusetts, Illinois, and Oregon license plates.

JKL will give anyone a bid and is desperate for more girls-unfortunately, this is the smallest chapter that is constantly COBing, so it might be true, but since I'm not in them I can't comment on that.

XYZ only dates boys from PQR fraternity-no idea since I've only ever met one XYZ.

LMN is full of drunken party girls-this one was actually told to me by a member of LMN, who showed me an album full of unsavory spring break pics posted by one of her sisters on Facebook.

DEF gives you weed brownies during pref-somehow I doubt this one is true...

The comments in bold make me think that you're already somewhat influenced by these rumors...

Alright, I will admit that a member of a sorority telling me to my face that her chapter had a bad reputation and showing evidence didn't really help me, but I'm at least going to try. I suppose being on campus for a year didn't help, because it allowed me to form my own opinions as well as hear others'. I hope that every group, rumors or no, does wonderfully during recruitment and succeeds, and I also hope that I find the place that's best for me.

DEF & XYZ pledge together during Hell Week (specifically, naked in the woods by the athletic fields--gasp!)
GHI not only circles your fat, but they also practice their "mouth skills" on pickles...
