OK, I am an adviser for a Delta Tau Delta chapter. I am looking for unique rush event ideas to use. Currently, we have a few that are in the mix and BBQs and wing/pizza nights are pretty lame and lack any real thought, nor do they separate one fraternity from another.
What events have been well attended for your chapters?
The events that I was able to tell which rushes had potential was events structured around closeness. One example is a hookah/shisha night at a private location or at a hookah bar. It's a relaxing atmosphere. You get to know who the rushes are. People aren't busy eating. I had several Brothers who figured out who they liked immediately at these events. The rushes got to know the 'real' us. I hope this helped.
I'm in a small local sorority, but one think we found effective was a potluck. all the sisters and pnms brought food and we collected donations for the campus food bank. We learned really quickly who fit in best with us from the way the pnms interacted with us and each other.
Today to end my rush week for fraternities, we had an alumni event, and after everyone ate, we went onto the back porch of the house, and a few brothers brought out some boxes of cigars. Every brother and possible pledges smoked cigars and talked. It was fantastic, and what ended up making me decide to go to this fraternity if I received a bid.
