Did the OP's daughter receive and accept a bid? Magic 8 ball says: Better not tell you now.

I also asked Magic 8 ball if the OP would come back to GC and got this: Don't count on it.

Two of those types of answers = it's time to move on!

P.S. We actually have very little information about the OP's daughter's recruitment. The OP never posted anything about how her daughter fared throughout the week, other than that she had a full schedule for skit day. This suggests that the daughter was at that point having a successful recruitment (especially considering the competitiveness of Alabama).

I suspect someone like this would be rather tempted to come back to Greekchat to gloat about how her plan to have the daughter list only the budget chapters worked if she did indeed get a bid to one.

First I was all face because my attempt at "light banter and fun exchanges" was a FAIL, apparently.

Now I'm all face.

You have no idea what all I - and my sisters - did to try and save the chapter. When you talk about someone's chapter of initiation, you are getting VERY personal. What did YOU do to help? The hippie/anti Viet Nam movements of the 60's and 70's did Greeks in general no favors.

Sorry if I am a pragmatist. I went to Catholic schools thru high school and was mostly raised by my father so I look at things from a very practical point of view. My first car was my grandmother's 7 year old Chevy when she finally got a new car. A year later, I wanted a 65 GTO and had to have my father co-sign for me as I was 20 a couldn't legally sign a loan on my own. He told me he would have the bank write a new one when I turned 21. I agreed to those terms. He took me to lunch on my 21st birthday and we went by the bank for me to sign a loan on my own. Though my parents always paid for my schooling- private school, college, sorority - I worked summers during high school and got a part time job in college when I realized my allowance would not go as far as I wanted. I knew - without even asking- that my father wouldn't increase my allowance - even though he could afford to. That's how I was raised. With all I ever needed but knowing that it was up to me to find a way to get the extras. Just because my parents could afford something was not reason enough for me to have it. All I was suggesting was that the mother find a way...not a cut of an arm. For crying out loud. Get a grip, folks.

No, I don't know what all you did to try to save your chapter.

Which is why I didn't waggle a judgmental finger. I'm sure this was heartbreaking for the actives and the alums.

But whatever those hippies did to damage the greek system, it didn't have much of an effect at the UofA. Greek life was flourishing during the 70's (I can certainly speak for the late 70's anyway), with nearly as many sororities as there are today.

Your memory is suspect. Alpha Phi, Sigma Kappa, DG, DPhiE, AZD and A E Phi all left! Theta and AOPi came but that's it's. Gamma Phi didn't come back till the 80's. We have more chapters now than ever before.

And it was heartbreaking. You have NO idea how it felt to stand in that new house these past two weeks. And you need to quit talking about MY chapter. I sure as heck wouldn't talk about yours - at least not here on GC.

There are only two additional chapters at UofA that were not there when I attended in the late 70’s – Gamma Phi Beta and Alpha Phi. Thus my statement regarding nearly as many then as now.

A number of chapters on your list closed, returned, and closed again. Two of the most recent closures do not remotely correspond to the historical influences of the Vietnam War and/or hippies. Your list:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fraternities_and_sororities_at_the_Univers ity_of_Alabama

There is probably an interesting discussion to be had regarding the reasons these chapters struggled – I wonder if it has anything to do with in-state girls being reluctant to break tradition, so to speak, and pledge a chapter new to the campus. I wonder if colonizing in other areas of the country – or perhaps outside of the SEC, anyway – is as difficult. It seems to me that the increased numbers of OOS students at Bama will help new chapters.

I think it is touching that your love for your chapter has come full circle. I anticipate that Delta Gamma will be very successful .

And I think you need to 'quit talking' about her parenting.

I don’t think you realize how far more personal ridiculing and attacking a mother’s parenting is, especially during such an emotional and stressful week. However much any of us love our chapters, we love our daughters more.

I don't know what happened and DON'T have to access to any secret vault; however, it seems pretty likely that Greek or Geek was someone else's sock puppet.

Can you get banned for that?
