Auburn 2011 Recruitment Questions

Hi y'all I'm new here and have some questions about the 2011 recruitment at Auburn.

1) I saw the bid list that was posted and noticed that Chi Omega is listed with 124 pledges and KAT is listed with 96. The other 15 sororities have between 62 and 68 pledges. Can anyone explain the diparity in numbers to me?

2) During the recruitment process if a PNM made a minor mistake on her application, ie she reported that she graduated 7 out 60 versus 8 out of 60 would that be a reason for sororities to cut her?

3) If a PNM's mother de-sistered a sorority in college would sororities use that as a reason to cut her daughter? (not just talking about the sorority her mother de-sistered)

4) How much influence do alumni advisors have during the cut/bid process?

Thank you for your help!

I'll leave the answer to the first question to someone at Auburn, but the remaining three questions all have to do with Membership Selection, which is different for every sorority, and also information that is not shared outside that sorority.

The fact is, we don't know what happened in these MS sessions, so any answer we give would be speculative.

Hi Vsmith,

Because some of your questions are in the membership selection area, GC members have no way of knowing an answer. Here is what I can tell you:

1. Bid List: A very smart and fabulous GCer took the Auburn bid list and put it into a nice spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...hl=en_US#gid=5. According to this, Chi Omega had 62 bids. There were some groups with different numbers. These could be quota additions, or it could be that these numbers helped the chapters reach total. Someone who is more familiar with Auburn may be able to tell you if that was the case with the one chapter that took almost 30 more than the other groups.

#2, #3, and #4 - These are all membership selection questions that are not discussed outside of these chapters. Not even members of these sororities at Auburn will talk about membership selection (ie, it stays within the 4 walls of the room).

1) The chapter were not or may not have been at total so they are allowed to give out bids up to total. Quota and total are two different things.

2) Don't know the answer. I would imagine that it shouldn't be a reason. Mistaking the placement by one is not like saying your were first in your class.

3) No. The mom is not going through recruitment. There are many reason that someone would deactivate and the current chapter would not have details of the mother.

4) The chapter is the one that has the final say in whom they want. Each sorority has different criteria. Alum may give their opinion but it is the active sister that will ultimately have the final say.

Only if mom lied and sent in a rec saying she was still a sister of the sorority.

The reason you're seeing 124 is because when you do a search on "Chi Omega" you will get the results or "Alpha Chi Omega" lumped in there too I made the same mistake myself.

Quota was 62, but I think that a few were slightly over quota if they had room in the sorority as a whole. KAT is a fairly new chapter at Auburn..... I think this is only their second or third year of recruitment...so they had much more room to expand.

That theory has been speculated on here quite a bit, but actually they were already one of the biggest (if not the biggest) chapter on campus. They have had numerous QAs all three years of formal recruitment, so they are (and have been) at a very healthy size.

Didn't realize that, Blondie....that was really more my opinion. I didn't mean it to come across as fact. I guess I had read (on here, probably!) that before.
