Random post, I know, but as a mostly-lurker on GC who grew up Jewish in Washington DC I was curious about this story. It looks like maybe he was in Phi Sigma Delta, which I believe merged with ZBT: http://www.e-yearbook.com/yearbooks/.../Page_438.html

My funny "pinning" story was that my boyfriend at the time I was a senior was a 26 year old alumni of his fraternity. We were really serious at the time, had discussed marriage, and I felt we were on our way to engagement (and I really wanted to have a candlelight ). When I said that I sure wished he'd ask me to marry him before I graduated, his response was - can't we just get pinned? I'm like, Dude, you're 26!

Anyway, he ended up asking me to marry him during spring break, I got to have my candlelight, and - now 26 years later, we are still happily married! (Luckily, because he jokes that I pressured him into asking me so I could have a candlelight).

I still have that candle, with the wine and silver blue ribbons, sitting in a box displayed. I also have his pin and mine in a box joined by a chain - I know- cheesy, but I like it.

I didn't realize it had changed. That explains the aweful pinning ceremony that I observed though. I told my husband that if I had been the girl, I would have refused it.
