Obama made the call. Military would have not done it without his say. If Pakistan makes a stink about it happening without their knowledge, it's Obama who will take the fall/blame for it. He would have also taken the blame if the mission had failed and we had American casualties. IMO, he gets the credit, along with Seal Team 6, the CIA lead, and all of their support personnel.

Exactly. There would still be celebrations even if he had been taken alive. (Even though it has been stated that taking him captive was never the goal or even an option).

Please also keep in mind that the Navy Seals would not have been able to pull the mission off (actually, they never would have gone on it to start) had it not been for good actionable intelligence from the civilian and military intelligence agencies.

Yeah. I have friends in DC that said the mood in their offices will be "cautious optimism" given the fact that they know they all have huge targets on their backs now (like all Americans overseas, and many major cities in the US are on "high alert.")

Yep. My sister is in the Air Force and the threat level on her base has risen.

Isn't that scary to think? I mean, we celebrate today but, wonder what will be tomorrow? As far as recognizing that intelligence agencies helped support this effort, I'm def. aware of this (due to my role in the military). I fear for our troops overseas, especially those in Intelligence positions.
It's great to celebrate this victory but, let's not get too lazy about being vigilant. Who knows what will happen next?

Will that be the Navy Seals' faults or Obamas? Or both or neither? Agh...this credit and blame thing is tough.

No, that doesn't go to anyone. This isn't a slight on anyone. I'm saying everyone should be proud to be an American but, let's remember that we must be careful at home and abroad. That really goes with the territory of being an American.

You mean...your friends don't assume the "war on terror" is over because Osama is supposedly dead? I thought that's what American celebration implied. Your friends need to get with the program and TSA needs to let us go back to traveling as we did 20 years ago.

They have two brain cells to rub together.
As an aside, the Chicago police are "keeping an eye on religious institutions." That better mean they're watching them in order to protect them, but I doubt it. Awesome.

They must have the only brains left in America. Lord knows that everyone else is farting and partying as though there's not a care in the world.

I know I'm catching up on this discussion, but

Completely irrelevant. The Commander-in-Chief gets to take the credit and has to accept the blame, especially in a case like this when he was certainly directly making final decisions. I have no problem with that, regardless of who the Commander-in-Chief is.

I do not know that at all, though my strong suspicion is that you're wrong. I, who was no fan of W's, would have given him credit, just as I and many others who otherwise didn't like him did for his actions after 9/11.
