Easy ways to raise money?

I'm thinking of running for treasurer and I'm looking for some easy ways to raise money so our chapter can have a little extra social money. This is internally focused. One idea I have is having everyone pay 5 bucks for the March Madness tournament and then all that money goes to the house, the incentive is if you win you receive housing points which allow you to get a high room pick etc.

Why not just raise dues by $5? That seems like the most obvious solution.

Exactly. Some people could care less about March Madness and I'm sure they wouldn't want to pay anything associated with it (I'm not quite sure what you mean by "paying for it").

And still...some people don't give a crap about MM and want nothing to do with it. For $5, just raise dues.

Yep. Just adding 5 into the social budget is very easy and shouldn't cause any major issues. Plus its less work than figuring out a reward for a bracket competition.

I mean 5 dollars was just an arbitrary number I'm looking for ways to raise money that are easy, besides just raising dues. Something that is brotherhood involved, not just asking for more money.

What we recommend if you want to raise $200 total is going to be different than what we recommend if you want to raise $2000 total.

Exactly. If your group wants $200 extra for more social money, adding it to dues is the easiest way to do it. If your group wants $2000 to throw a huge event, then holding outside fundraisers becomes a feasible idea.

Holding a fundraiser to get more money in your social budget (for mixers and etc...) just seems really stupid, especially if its your own chapter members throwing in the money.
