Why Don't sisters want to work?

My Chapter exec board just got grades!! I'm i can't believe it!! Half of the sisters worked hard and got above 3.0, most around the 3.5 area and the other half got about2.5 or lower!! It just get me soo Mad because Several of us have spent hours in the study rooms or in the studio doing our work whiel the other half just played around!!NOW< WE HA WVE THE LOWEST GPA ON CAMPUS!! We had the highest last spring!! i'm frustrated. How do you get your members to study and when they are having problems to ask for it?

That's really unfortunate that you went from first to last in one semester.

There are several ways of getting results when it comes to improving grades. Begin with rush...I know that in sorority rush it is way more difficult to limit yourself to the best academic rushees, however you can put a lot of emphasis on it during the pledge period: Enforcing study hours with your new members is the best way and also just making sure that they know it is a priority of the chapter to have sucessful students be a part of the chapter. For my chapter if a Pledge gets a 4.0 for their pledge semester they get $500 and a 14k gold Beta ring.

One of the other things you can do is set up a system of monetary rewards for members who acheive good grades. At my chapter the Scholarship chairman creates groups of three called triads for every semester. The rule is that if everyone in the triad gets above a 3.33 GPA for the semester then each person gets a $100. Each person has to get above the grade, as it is not the averaged GPA of the three (ex: if two people get 4.0's and the other person gets a 3.1 then that triad does not receive the money). Also Everyone who gets a 4.0 for the semester gets $50 automatically. The triad system works nicely b/c it puts some brotherly pressure on everyone to do well b/c no one wants to be "THAT" guy who kept the others from getting their money.

Other things you can do include just improving your test files. It takes a focused effort to do that, but if you get even just 5 members to keep everything from their classes (particularly in classes that are taken by a lot of people...intro courses in the sciences, psych, economics...) then that can help in the future.

Hopefully these ideas help your chapter as they have helped mine...we just got a 3.510 chapter (total of 84 members) GPA for the spring Semester, being the first fraternity in 15 years to have the highest GPA for all Greek chapters.
