I love Philippa Gregory! Her books about the Tudor period are really well researched. The Queen's Fool was the last of hers that I read.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned "The Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd. It seems like a book you all would really like. I just got done with it and absolutely loved it. I highly reccommend "On The Road" by Jack Kerouac too if no one has read it. Probably my favorite book. ALSO, "Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit" by Jeannette Winterson.

Having finally read the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer that is so popular, I would recommend them if you liked Harry Potter or if you read Mercedes Lackey.
Nora Roberts also has a new trilogy out, the Sign of the Seven. That was pretty good.

Just finished "The Secret Life of Bees". It was much, much better than I had imagined! Now, I'm going to wade through a few books I picked up on Jefferson. Complex, fascinating man!

He is definitely a plot-based writer, which is a shame since I think more characterization would have helped me enjoy it more. That said, I did like the mystery and adventure aspects, but his writing really distracted me from enjoying it fully.
I just had such a hard time taking him seriously after he mentioned a cell phone having a dial tone for the 3rd time.
I've started on The DaVinci Code, and so far it seems to be better written. The omni stuff is only coming at scene or chapter intros and he's staying mostly in single 3rd. Thank God for small favours. Of course, I'm only starting chapter 4, so this could all go to hell easily, but so far it's much better than Angels and Demons.

Well Angels and Demons was his first book after all. I do like his writing better in DaVinci Code, but I think Angels and Demons was a better story.

That is on my list to read. I think I'm on the waiting list for it at the library.

I was looking for something else, and found this thread. I found myself wondering last night if the Kindle/Nook/etc are going to put paperbacks out of business. But I digress.
Like so many other GCers, I loved The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I've been on a Lincoln/Lincoln Assassination kick lately, so have read Manhunt (James L. Swanson), Blood on the Moon: The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln (Edward Steers), Lincoln's Assassins: Their Trial and Execution (James L. Swanson & Daniel Weinberg) and more. I'm always a little surprised that there really are people who honestly believe that Mary Surrratt and Dr. Mudd weren't involved!
A few of my favorite authors have books coming out soon:
I Still Dream About You - Fannie Flagg
Hell's Corner - David Baldacci
Minding Frankie - Maeve Binchy
