This is wonderful news!!! (Canada) Jen and I were just talking about how upsetting the closings have been, so it's wonderful to see IHQ extending our circle of sisterhood!

That's wonderful!!!! I was going to mention at our Alumnae Meeting tonight but didn't think I should in case the "formal" announcement wasn't made yet.
You'll have to wait for what I know!
No...IT'S NOT THAT, lol!

Lynn

First of all I am SOOO glad to hear we are colonizing. Esp. after the Alpha Chapter news
Second, Why is our poss. expansions a secret? I also wondered how one could get a copy of the publication to NPC that lists the schools up for expansion?
Do we have any other poss. expansion sites? If we can tell?

NOT ME!!!
Sorry for the delay in telling y'all the news but I haven't gotten an OK from the sister herself...so probably not until next week at least.
As far as I know, she's never checked out GC but with the news, you never know!

I dont understand still why we as members cant know the doings of IHQ. Other groups are told of possible expansions and from what I see it helps create excitement. I feel I should be able to know where we may be expanding and where we are having problems.
Just my two cents though.
I am just oh so happy we are expanding!!!

Wendy, I believe that the local alumnae are informed when Alpha Gam makes an extension presentation, especially because we all know that alumnae support is so important to the success of a fledgling chapter. Our local alumnae were very aware of the Chapman presentation, and the wonderful turnout we had for it, IMO, may have been a big reason why we were extended the invitation.
However, when you start telling everyone what you're doing, things have a way of getting out of hand. We can't start counting our chickens before they hatch, because a situation can change at a moment's notice. I think that IHQ is erring on the side of caution--which I think is the smart thing to do. I wouldn't want something to fall through at the last minute and then end up with egg on our face.

I fully agree with the prior post. I am a charter member of my chapter and we had three NPC groups do their extension presentations before we picked Alpha Gamma Delta!
The opportunity to colonize on a campus isn't official until after we do our extension presentation and the local sorority choses us (probably over a couple other groups). That's why the Fraternity doesn't say anything to the entire Fraternity membership until after the local sorority makes their final selection.
I know I've been asked about my take on local alumnae support when a local sorority on a campus near me sent an inquiry in for Alpha Gamma Delta to do an extension program for them. Sadly, there was minimal alumnae support for the other Alpha Gam chapters in the area so going onto another campus was totally out of the question.
But when there is enough support, like at another campus I know of, the local alumnae were very involved with the extension process as well as the colonization process (after all, advisors will be needed)!

I am split on the issue of possible expansions being public. When we first started talking about it, I was thinking "man, that's not fair that we don't know!" But, while I feel like those of on GC could be calmly excited, if it were completely public, there might be some people who would shoot their mouths off. Personally, I wish we could be informed about all expansions, however, I do see why IHQ keeps a low profile.

Now that we're going to colonize at Chapman I'm sure there will be something in the Quarterly to let everyone know!

I am sure they will!
IHQ and IC do not keep things quiet for no reason at all...
One example is that just because we are asked to make an extension presentation and it goes well - does not mean we will colonize there. We have to take into consideration the campus and if it fits what Alpha Gamma Delta stands for. If it does than IC votes on it and then we accept the invitation. By keeping things on the quiet side than it does not get out of control.
I cannot say it enough - Sometimes you just have to trust the judgements of International Council (IC) and International Headquarters (IHQ). The decisions are made in the best interest of ALL her members.

Just a thought to throw in the loop... it appears the other groups who presented at Chapman didn't mention anything about this on GC. I think only one other group was mentioned (of 3 or 4?), but I did a search on here, and none of the other groups mentioned anything about it until it was over and a decision had been made...
I think it's a good idea to keep things somewhat quiet - what's the point in publicizing that we weren't chosen at certain universities? And, to echo what DeltaBetaAGD said, just because we're presenting doesn't mean there will be a colony! I wouldn't want to get my hopes up (and the hopes of many others) just to find out that it's not happening for one reason or another. That's why we elect our International Council to make these decisions in the best interest of the Fraternity.
Am I babbling yet?
Also, I've never really seen publicity about colonizations in the Q or otherwise... it's usually just the installation that gets publicity - unless you're local to the colony, and then you're sent the info to help out and recruit alumnae initiates.
