Haha--My daughter has been known to pass out from the heat and had actually done it at a concert not long before recruitment began. This was exactly the advice I gave her-don't be that girl!

She must have kept pretty cool and well-hydrated. She didn't really complain about the heat too much. For their longer breaks between parties the girls can wait in the Panhellenic suite and cool off a bit.

So Agree! Best wishes to all the PNMs and to all of the Sororities! It reminds me of a a song we use to sing--

Rush, Rush , miss your meals lose some sleep , SMILE
what's your name , what's your major, who's the guy , why?
Gee rush is hectic but I'd do it all again for Gamma Phi ,yeah, YEAH!!

we had professional photos taken before or in between parties on each theme day. the same photographer went around to all the houses and all the sororities knew the schedule for the whole campus. there were no photos taken during actual parties.

of course, not many people had their own cameras back then, but even if you did, you didn't have to worry about it during rush.

Back to the water- if you played spring/summer sports, you know that you should start drinking water the night before-a glass of water an hour before the day's activities isn't going to do it. Besides, who wants to feel woozy, yucky and headachy because you are dehydrated? So drink up and good luck! (The daughter of a good friend is a junior in at Auburn and the girls in her sorority so excited to meet all this year's PNMs!)

Another tip about water...

Drink about a cup of water if you are anxious or nervous. It will help calm your nerves. (I learned that one in my public speaking class in college.) A good tip if you are nervous right before a party.

At a large, competitive school, it's seldom a "cut." More that the consensus gave out of openings before they got to you. It's entirely posible that you were near the top of the list of whoever you talked to.

Just talked to active daughter. Good day, but she's already tired. 850 girls came through today, with another approximately 400 tomorrow. Good luck to all the PRMs.

My daughter is active as well and find this side much more stressful than when she went through rush. She wants all the girls going through to feel comfortable and have fun.

Just noticed that not only do the girls finish ice water teas at about 1 today but they finish philanthropy parties about that time in 2 days. Wow. I don't know what time their invitations will arrive but that sure gives them a lot of time to obsess and tent talk...all afternoon and evening. Who wouldn't obsess with hundreds of other rushing women around you? That's so much time to think, "Why did she get more invitations that I did?" "All those girls have designer ___ and I don't." "She already knows all these sorority members and I don't know any."

Auburn! I hope you've filled their downtime with lots of fun and constructive activities!

I think that l-o-n-g period after each of the first two rounds is spent by the sororities going over what they have learned.

On the bright side - they miss the heat of the day! I remember last year, the umbrellas were out in force for the shade - not the rain. MY daughter is on the other side this year and is so excited for the new pnms. She had a great time yesterday, and said she did not meet a single girl she would not like as a sister (this may be a problem in choosing....)

Lawgal, My daughter feels the same way. Very stressful narrowing a field when you like all the girls you met and remember the other side.
