I haven't heard/read about any problems with the new one but, that's poor customer service to put out a poor quality product like they did. I had my first 360 for only 7 months before it had the "ring of death" issue. I sold it to Game Stop because they were buying back broken 360s at the time. I waited 3 years before I bought another one because, I was trying to wait for them to work out those problems. I ended up with the Halo Addition 360. I've had it for over 3 years now, without any issues -knock on wood. I doubt I'll buy another XBox. I don't trust the product.
DS, thanks for that update, man.

I had my 1st xbox since day one and had only one rrod. I only upgraded after the newer ones had the hdmi ports built in and not one problem with it. I got my ps3 used like 3 years ago and no probs whatsoever and luckily it was one of the ones with backwards capability. I am not happy that supposedly the newer systems from both companies may have safeguards from being able to play pre owned games.

My best friend told me that his PS3 recently died on him. He said he got the "yellow light". I guess that's Sony's version of Microsoft's rrod. I hope my PS3 doesn't have that issue, because I play it much more than I play my 360.

I believe that as long as the place you keep it in is relatively dust free as well as a good room temp you should be ok.
Btw, you guys need to check out The Witcher II next week. It will be a good game.

ok that would so suck if they prevent us from backwards compatibility....the replay factor (at least for me) is a key thing....
I only had an issue with the ROD, and it was my fault and it resolved itself quickly. My only issue (that I recently discovered) was my HD DVD failure and had to send it back to MS and they replaced it with a standard DVD...of course I found this out after I purchased a friend's collection of HD DVDs...

I have tried them and for what they are worth, they are severely over rated.
One model I think I will look at will be the Sennheiser HD 219
