Wink Chapter Name Question

Hello. Future PNM here, as I was reading basic bio's of the sororities at my future school and Chi Omega is one of them. I read that Chi Omega was founded at University of Arkansas, but on the "NPC RECRUITMENT 2009-2010" thread, it mentions that Chi Omega chapter at Arkansas is under the name Psi. So my question is basically, whats the story behind it not being named alpha? I'm sure all the lovely ladies of Chi Omega, are brushed up on their Chi Omega trivia!

Lane swerving a bit, but many GLOs don't follow a straight Alpha, Beta, Gamma naming system for chapters. I can think of other GLOs whose founding chapter isn't named Alpha -- one of them being Kappa Sigma, a member of which assisted the founders of Chi Omega.

Thanks, MysticCat!

Yes...tis true. The "mother" chapter at University of Arkansas is Psi. Omega, the last letter in the Greek alphabet is reserved for all deceased members.

Omega
Psi - 1st chapter
Chi - 2nd chapter
Phi - 3rd chapter

V
Alpha

Then the next group begins...
Psi Alpha
Chi Alpha
etc.

There are a few exceptions to the rule, but basically -- that's the way we name the chapters.
