the animals have already been destoyed and are not coming back, no matter what happens to the coats. the coats might as well be used for some good, and donating them to homeless people who are freezing on the streets seems like a good thing, but maybe your point was why have the furs in the movie in the first place, and that is a point well taken. i imagine that kim cattrall has enough star power to refuse to wear the furs without any negative outcome to her contract or paycheck.
it reminds me of a woman i saw years ago who had on a thigh-length fur coat that had all these tails hanging off it-it looked like she was being attacked by a troop of rabid squirrels. how anyone could think that looked attractive is beyond me.

Yes, that was exactly my point. Her taking a stand and not wearing them at all would make a lot more of an impression on young women than donating the coats to PETA.

Well, the most logical thing I could think of is maybe that was their S.O's jacket or maybe a parent's?

If I'm not going to wear a shirt anymore, I'd rather have it go to someone who needs it than to rip it up and have them go shirtless. Nobody's going to think that the homeless lady down on the street is actually a Tri Delta. It's not reflecting badly on my organization. In fact, if you actually took the time to think about it, it's reflecting well on my organization because I donated clothes to the homeless rather than only thinking of myself.
I do agree with GeekyPenguin, though, that there's a difference between a homeless woman and the random girl in my English discussion section.

Exactly. I think it reflects well on a GLO if they donate their shirts to someone who truly needs clothes.
I do agree that people that are just trying to look cool should have no right to wear letters.
But...come on, people!
In addition, I don't think it's too kind to absolutely humiliate someone for wearing the letters. It's a good idea to point out to them (NICELY!!!) that what they're doing isn't cool...but humiliating someone? No.

To all of those disgusted with my post. I'm sorry if my post offended anyone. However, as I earlier said this woman was shopping in the mall with a distinct hate for a shirt she was wearing. She ended up spending well over what a homeless person would.....there for she wasn't homeless. So I'm sorry if my post upset anyway and made people disgusted. My goal is not to create enemies on GC.

Daisy, I don't think it was your post at all - we've reached a consensus that the woman in your situation was just wrong. As usual, we got off on a GCtangent.

On this subject, when I was vacationing in Atlanta last week, I met a homeless man wearing an Alpha Delta Pi formal shirt from 1989. My mom was standing on the sidewalk looking at a map, and he came up to us and asked if we needed any help finding anything. He was very nice and helpful! Although no one would assume he was an ADPi , he's still out there representing the azure and white in a good light!

I've never walked into a goodwill/ERC store and noticed the racks were empty. They could probably do without GLO shirts just fine. Not exactly a staple of their existance.
If we want them to wear our shirts we could make them special for the homeless. Like "Sigma Nu gave me this shirt". Give them in exchange for advertising our philanthropies or other events.
(I'm kidding of course -- at least in the second paragraph).

I saw a male construction worker pouring concret wearing AGD letters before. Ugly early '90s pattern too! I've never seen it but there are homeless people on our campus and once in a while people say they see them wearing our shirts and hats. I know one brother who swapped shirts with a homeless man who was wearing a pike shirt. Another time one of our guys offered to buy a hat that the homeless person was wearing.

And that is how it is supposed to be handled!
I can't speak for all Greeks, but I was taught during my process to destroy, shred, or burn, all "nalia" that could not be pass to another Soror. If we see ANYONE wearing our Letters who is not a member, we are get that item from them!!!!!
Yes, this is a very "Serious Matter"!
Last year a female 7th grade student wore a Kappa Alpha Psi jacket to school. I asked her who jacket was she wearing. She stated that it was her father's jacket. Then I asked if he was aware that she was wearing it. Of course, she said, "Yes." Then I explained to her why she should not be wearing his jacket. She never wore that jacket to school again. I don't think her father knew that she was sporting his jacket around school.
