Alumni Association Liability

Brothers,

Dan Krueger recently sent out a message to the Regional Alumni Leadership regarding a need for Alumni Association Liability Insurance. In his discussion with Jeremy Evans they discussed the corporate liability protection fee (CLPF). The CLPF covers liability for the national fraternity. However, it does not cover chapter level liability. Currently, collegiate members pay a per member fee of $4.00 per semester on top of per capita tax.

With the increase of colleges and universities wanting chapters to have liability insurance, the Fraternity is researching the need to have liability insurance that extends to the local levels. Should this happen, chapters, colonies and alumni associations would be covered under this new policy.

The main question is whether or not alumni associations should contribute to the cost of a liability insurance policy.

This item will be discussed at the 2009 National Convention in Orlando. Please provide some input and ask questions in this thread regarding Liability Insurance for Alumni Associations.

Fraternal Regards,

Boodleboy322

Clearly Alumni Associations should contribute to the cost. I mean they, as well as collegiate chapters, fully function as an entity of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

I've been pleased to see an uptick in Alumni Associations and Alumni Clubs since this post began. Regarding the insurance, National HQ adopted policies pertaining to chapters living in houses regarding the additional insurance assessment those chapters owe to the Fraternity. They also established a fund for the deposit of certain insurance fees collected so they can be restricted for insurance-related expenses.
