Ebay Auction

Morning all, here's hoping everyone had a great holiday season.

I was on Ebay last night and I saw this item:
http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-Alpha-Ph...item3358d84bf5

Not sure if it was ever an official item or not but it still looks pretty cool. Though I placed a bid in for it I'm sure I won't win. However, I'd prefer something like this go to a brother and not simply a collector and so I'm posting the info here. Also if anyone knows maybe more about the history of items such as this I'd love to hear it.

Never seen anything like it before. Somebody told the seller that it is a chapter-level past president's key.... somehow that doesn't seem accurate to me, but what do I know?

Sorry about that

I bid on it before I read that it was a fellow brother bidding on it. My max is $20 for now, but Brother Joseph, if you outbid me, I won't compete.

But it is an interesting item. I wouldn't be that surprised if the item was fraternity neutral before the metal coat of arms was added.

I plan on bidding for it. Will make a nice addition to my display of APO items.

It is a past president's key. AFAIK, it was an item made by our Official Jeweler. Will have to see if I can find a date for it, but think it would be the 50s or so. Am sure the surrounding gold area was generic, and the jeweler just added a group's COA.

FYI, if you are on Facebook, there is a group I started called "alpha phi omega history nutz". Many of the pictures there are of items I got off eBay, and a few I wasn't able to.

So we are bidding against each other?

I haven't bid yet.

Frankly, am a little annoyed about all the APO literature I've lost in bids on eBay. Who knows were they ended up. And I really hate eBays new system that hides the other bidders from you.

But I recently was chatting with some Brothers in Delta. Should be able to get with them and make scans of their materials. It seems their archieves have a lot of old items.

I agree with you on hating the new system. I'd love to know that I'm bidding against specific other bidders.

As far as I can tell, anything that Delta doesn't have, FRH probably did on his personal typewriter.

FWIW, I bid and won the item Sunday. When I checked back, I had no idea who was bidding, as there were about 8 bids vs 5 as of Friday, the price pushed up to $50 from $20 on Friday.

I'll be posting pictures of the item on the APO History group on Facebook.

Well, I was on the fence about bidding on it, and only did so when it seemed someone else had tried to outbid it (this c***4) person. I placed a high bid about an hour before, because I was going out to eat, and wasn't sure if I'd win.
