Question What Do You Know About Grants

Does anyone know a reputable, reliable, accurate listing that is either free or low cost that provides information about grants? Not grants for school per se, but grants for people willing to start a business, non-profit, buy a home, etc. etc. etc.

I looked yesterday on line and at Barnes and Noble but did not see what I was looking for.

Also, how accurate and trustworthy is this Matthew Lesko person?

Anyone ever applied for grants?

In Chicago we have something called the Donor's Forum. They may be in other cities, I'm not sure. But they have just about anything you would ever need to get money, etc.

http://www.donorsforum.org

I took a grant writing class where we had to write a grant for a non-profit that we volunteered with. I never actually sent it off but I got an A

I do it for a living. All of those you mentioned are different kinds of grants and need different kinds of approachs. Many times you are responding to a Request for Proposal (RFP) and they will tell you what they want and it what format.

Grants (or Prograam Related Investments usually in the form of a forgiveable loan) to start businesses, buy a home, etc. are usually part of a Federal/ State/ Local economic development initiative and require more hoops.

Grants to start a nonprofit usually come from private or public foundations and corporate giving programs, and tend to not be as application intensive. Still got my number? Give me a call.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I was looking more specifically for grants that might help authors get self published but the non profit leads will be passed on to a good friend of mine.

LG, I will give you a call. I forgot you do grants. I found some stuff after I started this thread but maybe you have some other leads, tips, suggestions.

Fellowships

You might want to look at artists/literary fellowships.

Check this out http://www.mcknight.org/arts/fellowships.aspx.

I think there many programs like this nationally--Check major national foundations such as Ford Foundation, Kellogg Foundation, etc.

December Basic Online Grant Writing Class

***DECEMBER 20th …I am finally having a NEW Online Grant class**** AGAIN!!!

Ladies and gentlemen here is what you have been asking me for....

MY BASIC GRANT WRITING CLASS for …….BEGINNERS!!!
(for those with nor prior grant writing experience)

Finally!!!!!! I have time for another grant class many of you have been asking about since many of you missed the last two.
Okay.....It will be December 20th and since it has been such a success I am going to do this one for ONLY $85.97 for EARLY REGISTRATION!! Then it will be $175. It will go back to the standard $325 in January.

Now this is an online basic grant writing class that includes:

1. Podcast class instruction and live instruction
2. Basic grant proposal writing
3. Non-profit registration
4. Online participation
5. Online posting of class grant process
6. (5) Grant funders in your area provided to you
7. Online assistance while you write your grant
8. Live interviews with corporation grant representatives that actually fund grants.
And much more......

Okay I know you’re all excited that I lowered my price from the $325. I did this because business has been awesome and I agree with giving and the flow comes back to you so this is my gift to you all that sign up by December 11th, then the class goes to $175 per person. It will be Sunday day evenings at 7pm central time. I may change it once we get everyone on board if you all want to do that. I am trying to get a count of those that want to participate for sure.

Please send me an email if you’re seriously interested....and tell your friends because in January the price will go back to the normal fee….
