Still need prayers for the on-going accident saga, and that my husband gets a possible job in Qatar.

A high school friend lost his 14 year old son - he had brain damage and was in a coma, but ultimately the brain damage was too much. I cannot begin to imagine the depths of his pain and grief. May light perpetual shine on Collin, and God give his family peace.

I just wanted to post an update about my mom. She had her first chemo treatment yesterday, and will be on chemo for 6 months (12 treatments total). She went to the oncologist's yesterday for the chemo, then they attached a pump for her to continue getting chemo until tomorrow afternoon. She said she felt kinda tired this morning. I believe this is the same kind of chemo my grandfather had, and he didn't lose his hair and now my mom is saying the doctor said she probably won't lose her hair, which is good!

Working with my organization, which is a very big, national, non-profit doing cancer research and providing MANY resources and services for all cancer patients, I've learned so much and it's really helping me cope with my mom's diagnosis.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers! It really has meant a lot to me!

Glad to hear that things sound like they are on the right track, DreamfulSpirit!

I have EXCELLENT news! My cousin, who had an ovary, fallopian tube and her appendix removed because of a malignant tumor just had her first follow up tests...and she's ALL CLEAR! No tumors, no cancer! HAPPY DANCE!

Yeeeeaaa for CousinLP! That's fantastic!

I am asking for prayer for yet another surgery (among other things). First up is SisterCG. Her doctor found a cyst that will require surgical removal. Thankfully, the surgery will be even less invasive than mine was but I think we aren't going to stop until both our parents are completely gray. No matter how many times I said I was fine and she's said she feels fine, our parents hear "surgery" and FREAK. However, this condition with my sister has taken a backseat. About an hour ago, my mom told me that NephewCG was diagnosed with both diabetes and pneumonia today. The latter we can handle but diabetes at age 13 is going to be really hard on him. 2012 hasn't really been awesome for the whole family.

About your nephew - does he have pneumonia frequently? Has he had high blood sugars before the steroids? How high have his blood sugars been running?

Non-diabetics can get high sugars while on steroids, but they don't tend to go sky-high.

If he has had high sugar readings without steroids, and while healthy, that's another issue.

I am just wondering. I am diabetic due to Cystic Fibrosis, and going on steroids send my sugars above 600ml if I don't use a ton of insulin.

Good luck to you, your mom and nephew.

And good luck to everyone else here. I have a prayer list that update and it seems like now is a good time to update it! I believe in the power of prayer!!

Great news from DreamfulSpirit and lovespink

Will continue with prayers for the CG family. Curious about the boy with pneumonia though. Was he on steroids when they made this diagnosis? When my mom was hospitalized with pneumonia and was on massive doses of steroids, she got diabetes related to the steroid use. It went away as soon as she was off them again but while in the hospital, she had to have insulin injections.

Asking for prayers for a High School friend who has been very ill and in the hospital since mid-November. She was always one of the sweetest girls, never had anything bad to say about anyone. It's no surprise that everyone from our HS is rallying around her!! I don't know exactly what she has, I think it's cancer. She also has two young boys. Your prayers are greatly appreciated! Her name is Jen if you would like a name to pray for. Thank you so, so much!!

Let me clarify: Nephew has never had pneumonia before. That just started 2 days ago. He has been taking cortisol (a steroid hormone) for quite some time because his body doesn't make cortisol naturally. So he does not have an excess of steroids in his system, he has just enough if not too little sometimes. So SisterCG has already explored that with the doc who determined the diabetes isn't because of that. She really hoped the fix would be that easy but no-go.

Shit. So, I'm in bed with a fever, lots of pain in my abdomen, and all from a procedure that was to be a second opinion about woman stuff. Feel like shit, but mainly, am worried that the procedure will come back showing somewhat aggressive uterine cancer. The doc said it looked promising, but is worried about the size and color of all of the polyps. Hopefully I will hear something soon, but any positive thoughts sent this way would be appreciated.

When I was in high school and played on the softball team, there was a girl a year older than me in school who volunteered to help with the team when she could. Very sweet girl, but I remember that she wasn't around a lot. I later found out that it was because she had cystic fibrosis and was in and out of the hospital a lot.

She found me on Facebook a few years later after I went away to college. One day I saw her status update thanking friends and family for their support and that she was recovering well, etc. She had a double lung transplant! From what I read, it seemed to have gone well. Over the next few years, I occasionally saw statuses about being back in the hospital...it always made me sad because the girl was obviously such a fighter!

On Thursday, she lost her battle with the disease.

I cannot imagine the grief her family is going through...According to her obituary, her parents have now lost all 3 of their children (I'm assuming they were sick also). My heart just breaks for them. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers today.

Any thought/prayers/good vibes would be appreciated as a recent MRI (which freaked me out enough) for something on my ovaries so I'm off to have tests to rule out ovarian cancer.
