I thought the very best piece out of all three collections was Carol Hannah's first look.

Not a dumb question at all. It wasn't an awful season it was just kind of lackluster. The contestants are usually more interesting. All we had this season was a snob and an incessant cryer.
They tried to make the difference in location a non-issue but you just can't beat New York for creative energy. Location also affected the available judges. Usually it's Heidi, Nina Garcia and Michael Kors (with an occassional alternate) and they're all solid.
I'd highly recommend watching the next season starting in January. They're back in New York and I'm hoping for a great show. I'm pretty traditional too but in past years I've always been wowed by more than one designer.

In addition to what Leslie Anne said, usually the designs are much more memorable as well. I mean, I still remember nearly all of of Austin Scarlet and Daniel V's designs, but most of them from this past season are pretty fuzzy.

OMG I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Austing Scarlett! Seriously, if I could afford one of his wedding dresses I would so get one when I get married.

Ditto
And why does she "get off" accusing others of "stealing" her work when she essentially was doing the same thing in the finale?

Agree. I haven't watched the episode yet this week (on DVR, but there is football to watch today), but in Season 5, Kelli Martin was "aufed" too quickly. Terri Stevens, I could have done without (heard from those who work at Victoria Secret that she is a biotch). And then there was Suede: Sorry KSUViolet, but there are just no words for Suede.

I really like Christopher, Carol Hannah, and Althea so far. I'm not quite caught up yet on the episodes though, I think I have one more to watch.
