With a trial, her past (whatever it might be) would have probably gotten dragged out and exposed a ridiculous amount. Better the psycho does it himself and saves the government the money.

I think it's for the best. I don't know how "satisfying" (not sure if that's the right word) a trial would be. If he was remorseless, you would hate him even more -- if he was remorseful, you would conclude that he was insincere. If he went to jail, he would eventually get out, and be free to resume his life (albeit, travel and employment prospects would be dampered / hindered by a murder conviction).

It's cruel and awful, brutish and short, but I think that this was probably a suitable outcome, short of her family having the satisfaction of offing him themselves.

According to this, Jenkins actually won ILM3 and went to the producers and asked for his $250K immediately (they usually don't get paid until it airs).
