Philanthropy and Speed Reads

I am the VP of Philanthropy for the Indiana Alpha chapter of Pi Phi... and I was wondering if I could get some philanthropy ideas and some ideas for speed read. We have a small campus, only about 1000 students so any ideas related to smaller schools would be much appreciated. Thanks

We have a Bowling for Books (an all-Greek/student organization bowling event where they pay $25 per team, and we give the winning team $100 for their philanthropy/campus organization), and we do a Speed Read there, where we give silly prizes for the winners.

I have a few questions about bowling for books... how many people are on the team and do you have the $100 in your budget or do you raise it... is it just the campus that participates or the community as well... thanks

We had it where a team could enter 5 people for 25 dollars, or enter solo players that would be randomly matched for 5 dollars. We also had to pay to rent the Bowling and Billiards center on our campus. We opened up the event for anyone who wanted to participate. We informed other greek organizations and registered student organizations, and I'm sure if we had tried a bit harder we could have opened it up to the community.
I think we had the money for the rental in our budget, but I think the $100 came out of entries.
We also had shirts that said "Reading is right up our alley" on the back. They were cute.

I was in charge of our Speed Read at UCF, one of the highest fundraising chapters, and one thing that really brought in a lot of money was a live auction of gift prizes. It was like the gifts you would win for a silent auction, but we bid for them live. It was fun seeing people get so into it. Obviously it would require extra work acquiring gifts from local companies that would be worth paying for.
