Yes, there are more whites than Blacks who only have high school diplomas or GEDs. Yes, there are more whites than Blacks on public assistance and who are unemployed. Yes, when looking at the general crime indices whites are more represented than Blacks.

HOWEVER, whites (of all ethnicities) comprise over 70% of the population. Blacks are disproportionately (over)represented among the undereducated, unemployed, underemployed, and in general crime rates. This is why Black representation in these social problems is not a matter of mere probability statistics but instead community-specific social ailments.

that's why i posted percentages in lieu of raw numbers. that particular instance, whites and blacks are relatively similar in percentage (5% difference).

They aren't relatively similar with percentages just as they are not with raw numbers.

86/82 = 1.048 percent. 5 percent. pretty similar to me. now if you're talking about something other than high school education, you're probably right. but that's not what i'm talking about.

JFK high school has 61% graduation of an average 3,000 student graduating class.

BFF high school has 58% graduation of an average 200 student graduating class.

How would you substantively interpret that beyond looking at the numbers and the fact that 61 is higher than 58?
