I'm so glad I didn't listen to them either. They were such awful snobs at lunch. I made it my purpose in life after that never to act in such a manner. And I think I'm a better person for it

Day 1: 1PM-5PM
Day 1 of recruitment continues...
Strawberry: Marie, one of the ridiculous gossips, was in my group, if you remember. She tried to walk with me on the way to Strawberry, but I was not having it. I tried to ignore her and get away from her, and I think she noticed because she kept shooting me dirty looks all the way to way to Strawberry and all throughout the party. The girl who was rushing me noticed the dirty look from Marie and whispered something to one of the actives. I couldn't tell if it was about me or Marie. I really hoped it was about Marie and not me because I really loved this house. I had a great conversation with all three girls that rushed me. It was never awkward, and most of the time we were laughing our heads off about a professor we all shared. At one point in time, there were four actives talking to me at once. I felt on top of the world! Especially when I saw Marie glowering at me - rumor had it she really wanted to be a Strawberry, maybe even as much or more than a Starfruit. The party ended, and I was SO sad to leave. But it was time for...Cherry, Jena's favorite house!
Cherry: This house was just as beautiful as Peach. Ivy grew up the side of the house and it looked as I imagined a sorority house to look like. The girls in this house were beautiful, as well. I noticed, though, that about 90% of them were tall and slender and brunette - I could see why Jena loved Cherry. She really looked like she could be a Cherry. As it turns out, the girl that rushed me, Josie, had also rushed Jena! She said that Jena was a perfect match for Cherry and that she thought I would be, too! After that I felt on top of the world! We had an amazing conversation - I felt SO connected to Josie. I was bumped 2 more times and felt as strong connections with those actives as I did with Josie. Before I knew it, there was another sorority that would give Peach a run for its money.
Grape: This sorority was actually a local sorority on my campus that had just started ten years ago. As a result, they were VERY small - some PNMs were triple rushed! Unheard of, right? Their numbers were small, and it was definitely obvious that they were struggling. I tried so hard not to let their small numbers affect me but it was difficult when my rusher was so awkward, and seemed so desperate.
The rest of Day 1 tomorrow! I'm so sorry it's taking me so long to write it all! I promise the rest of the posts will be much longer

Hmmmm. You're a freshman and school hasn't started yet, but you're having conversations about a professor you all share. That, in addition to the hot boxing statement leads me to believe you might be busting out a pair of pink sequined hose at any moment now.

She did describe herself as a petite blonde! I'm so hoping this is a true story with maybe a few details skewed to throw us off the trail.

I promise this is a true story! Let me explain: at UCF, some departments have a pre-classes gathering for new freshman. My department happens to host such a gathering, and this particular professor is an active part of the department, so he was at the gathering. I recognized who he was because I had already selected all my classes at my orientation in June and I remembered the name because it was distinct. I mentioned his name at the party and a few girls had had him and were telling me funny stories about him. Anyway, thanks for pointing that out!

Then again, this is what you just posted under the recruitment ideas thread http://greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?t=104404 over in the Sorority Recruitment forum. Doesn't look much like the rush you're talking about here. Curiouser and curiouser.

Yeah I don't know what Panhellenic would condone manicures and ACTUAL (not mocktail-type) margaritas for a recruitment event.
Not outright saying your story is phony, but this is odd.

Added to the fact that I can't find any "huge university with one of the most competitive Greek systems around" that has 14 chapters that participate in formal recruitment (or have even in the last several years.) Although mine has 14, several of the things she has stated do not add up to it being UT either. Something isn't right here. I'm just sayin'.

I would agree that it is odd, but we did strictly adhere to the 21+ rule. I don't even know how alcohol even came about as a subject for debate, because at all of my friend's schools, it is foreign idea that alcohol be served to minors. All I know is that a sorority petitioned for it to happen a few years ago, and after much negotiating they did pass something that allowed 21 year olds to drink at recruitment.

Um, ok. This makes zero sense to me.
There is an NPC Unanimous Agreement against allowing alcohol in recruitment events, minors or otherwise.
I don't see how your school isn't following this (as these agreements trump any campus "petitions"), unless it is a council full of 14 locals, which I doubt.
This is just really odd to me.

Word. There's no way this could possibly happen. End of story.

Oh, wow, I didn't know that, about the unanimous agreement. We are not all local sororities, so maybe I was just mistaken about the alcohol petition, or maybe we didn't have the school's approval. This does seem odd, now that I think about it. But I can be a bit naive sometimes, so I wouldn't put it past me. LOL As I came to realize throughout my first semester as an active, some of the older sisters could be quite misleading, and things could get very...political, for lack of a better word. There are a few times when that I recall when an older sister who was officer would really say anything to get the younger sisters to stop inquiring - there were alot of things that were very hush hush, so I wouldn't put it past a few of the senior officers to make up a story to get something to fly. I'm not saying I think that is an acceptable behavior, but, like I said, I was very naive and sometimes didn't bother to question as often as I should.
I hope that clears everything up!
