BALTIMORE – In yet another milestone for America and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Brother B.J. Penn has been appointed acting secretary of the United States Navy. Previously, Penn served as assistant secretary, a position he held since 2005. President Barack Obama appointed Brother Penn who took the helm of the Navy as its senior civilian official March 13.
“For more than 100 years Alpha men have served significant roles in providing the necessary voice and vision for the advancement of our society. Alpha’s role in contributing to what makes America its best continues with the recent appointment of Brother Penn,” said Herman “Skip” Mason, general president of the Fraternity. “We are grateful for the sacrifice of Brother Penn and all who serve in the capacity of protecting and defending our country.
