"Green" Housing

Are there any chapters out there who have recently built and incorporated green and sustainable building efforts?

I actually remember reading something about a LEED house a while ago. Here is the article: http://media.www.mustangdaily.net/me...-3373633.shtml

I would think if my school ever built greek housing (which is something I hope for, even though I know if it did happen it wouldn't be in my time) it would be LEED certified. Lawrence Tech is horny for that kind of thing.

That was the Sigma chapter of Alpha Chi Omega at the University of Iowa.

The best I could find is this article from the Iowa City paper:
Sorority settles into new home. There's a small mention of the house being "eco-friendly". It looks gorgeous, anyway!

Gamma Phi Beta at University of South Carolina

When the Gamma Phi chapter planned its house (they were very new to campus) they hoped for LEED certification. In the end, the added costs to obtain the certification were too high, but they did many things, like sensors for lights, using all fluorescent lightbulbs in overhead lighting, buying green wherever they could to make the house as green as possible. They also actively recycle wherever possible.

the phi delta theta house at butler university is currently going under a $1.6 (might be $1.8?) million dollar renovation & will be a "green" house...the first in the state of indiana.

they're recolonizing this semester & planning on housing members beginning in the fall of 2009.

We just had an article about this in our magazine for the winter quarter. Can't remember which chapter house it was, but one of ZTA's recently remodeled chapter houses was remodeled to be a "green" house. And I think this is becoming a priority with NHC when they do remodels. Its really exciting to see GLO's on the "green" bandwagon. This is another way that we as greeks can be leaders in making a difference!
