Is that a requirement for being a poll worker or something? They're the same way where I vote.

I had John McCain send me three absentee ballot requests that would all go back to a village other than the one I live in. No thanks, John, I'll get my own. To me, this is a much bigger problem than ACORN.

For those of you who live in a swing state: There will be attorneys and law students at the polls to prevent yahoos like this from denying you your right to vote.

This is good news. I'm in Ohio, which I *think* is considered a swing state.

One of the swingiest of the swingers, actually.

Why else would CNN bother?

The old-timers at my election hall essentially try to steer people to the Democrat voting booth. It's kind of funny, in a way...

This is all so interesting to me! In Oregon, we all vote by mail so the idea of a polling place and id seems weird!
Multnomah County (basically the one Portland is in) has this one the website:
  • What is Vote By Mail?
In 1998 voters passed a ballot measure directing all elections to be conducted by mail, commonly called Vote By Mail. Instead of using traditional polling places where voters go to cast ballots on election day, a ballot is mailed to each registered voter. The ballot is then returned to the county elections office and is counted on election day.
  • With Vote By Mail, how do I vote?
You must be registered to vote to receive a ballot. (Please see FAQ for more information.) A ballot will automatically be sent to all registered voters who are eligible to vote in the election 18 to 14 days prior to the election. Once you vote your ballot, just place it in the secrecy envelope, seal it and place it in the return envelope. Make sure to sign the return envelope after verifying your name and current residence address is correct. Then place a first-class stamp on the return envelope and mail it back. Remember that all ballots must be received at the elections office by 8:00 p.m. on election day. Postmarks do not count.
We do a lot of things different in Oregon though.

In Wisconsin, "early voting" is simply casting an absentee ballot in person at the clerk's office rather than by mail. The forms are all the same. The only differences are that you don't need a reason (though you never need a reason for voting absentee in Wisconsin), the clerk signs the envelope as your witness instead of some random person, and then you just hand it over instead of mailing it in.

Additionally, the bit about absentee/early votes not being counted until after the election isn't always true, and it's definitely not true in Wisconsin. Check out the National Conference of State Legislatures' page on early/absentee voting for a state-by-state breakdown.

Why yes, and here's the website if you'd like to know more http://prolifeidaho.com/ . I love the chronology of Pro-Life's life. Check out the entry on September 2nd, Pro-Life's wife agrees with Pro-Life that she shouldn't be involved in things outside the home.

Question for anyone who might venture a guess. I'm assuming the polls are going to be jam packed on election day as this is a presidential election and a pretty darn active one at that. I asked my boss if she might close our office at midday to encourage voting (other non-profits in the area are doing this) to which she replied that people can vote on their lunch breaks. Granted we have an hour for lunch, but is it really feasible to get to a polling place (say 10 minutes away), stand in line, vote and be back to work in an hour?

It seems unlikely to me but I might just be overly enthusiastic about the number of people who will be voting. BTW, I live in a suburb of NYC (Rockland County).

I feel like I posted this before but now I can't find it. Hmmm...

I would love it if they put "The artist formerly known as Marvin Richardson."

For any Floridians who have not yet early voted, Gov. Crist has extended the early voting hours to 7AM-7PM. The last day to early vote is Sunday.

Ahhh...I love voting by absentee. Why don't more states do absentee? That's the only choice in Oregon, and I think the majority of voters in Washington vote by mail.
